Nebulizer Parts and Sterilization??

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the proper forum...but here goes.

We just started doing the nebulizer with pulmozyme for my daughter. The guy came to show us about set up but only the nanny was here when he came. Do you all clean the nebulizer pieces every day? If so, how? I have those sterilizer bags for baby bottle stuff, can I use those? Can I use the dishwasher? They didn't give us any spare mouthpieces but they did give us a spare tube.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I use pulmozyme as well and actually have 2 complete sets of the mouthpiece so that I don't have to wash them everyday. I use one and then put it in the dishwasher with everything else and set the dishwasher function to "sterilize". That way I can be washing one set and not have to wait for it to finish cleaning to do my treatment. You might want to ask your doc if they can give you an extra one. Also, a lot of people use a baby bottle cleaner, so I'm sure that what you have will work just fine! If you have any more questions or just want to chat, don't be hesitant to message me!

WE wash our nebs everyday! For Pulmozyme we use a new clean neb every time (we do Pulmo 2x per day). We wash with soap and water, RINSE well with HOT TAP WATER, then put the nebs in a bottle sterilizer, not a micorwave one. Always use distiled water.

The ones we use -- pari brand as well as the invacare (for pulmozyme) can be boiled. I boil them daily. We have enough sets so I don't have to boil them after each use.

If the temperature on your dishwasher is hot enough, you can use that; however, I don't run our dishwasher every days. I know amy (noexcuses) has a countertop dishwasher she used for nebs.

We have 1 neb cup and fishy mask that we use with pulmozyme once per day. I put them in a bowl of soapy water for about 5 minutes then rinse good, shake out extra water and then set on paper towel to dry. I wash it out daily and every other day I boil it for 10 minutes. The fishy mask does not get boiled, just washed with soap. We were also told to use only clear dish soap to wash with. We use Ivory dish soap. Hope this helps.

I have heard of other people using bottle sterilizers too. I think Im going to look into getting one. Also I seen something about a Germ Gaurdian. I googled it and it looks awesome. Thinking about getting one of those too!

I was thinking of purchasing a bunch not just one extra. Has anyone done that or can you do that? I looked on line but it looked like the purchasing was in very very large quantities. I would like to have like 5 sets so we would always have some that are sterile without any type of wait.

We used to get a huge bag of nebulizers from our RT at the clinic, but our clinic no longer is allowed to accept samples from drug and equipment companies. So we now have to buy our own.

I've purchased extras from various companies. The biggy is making sure you're not paying excessive shipping. Think my last batch was from planet rx, though have purchased from other companies as well. Out of pocket, not thru insurance.
