****Need Advice****

My husband (asthma, no cf) and I both use Advair 250/50. We recently had an insurance change and they are now calling advair non-formulary, so our cost is $190 for a 3-month supplyinstead of $90. When you consider the fact that both of us use it, our cost will be going up $800.00 a year.
Anyway, in order to save money, we are thinking of switching to symbicort. I need to hear from those of you who are on it and what your results have been. If you have switched from advair to symbicort, I'd really love to hear what you thought.

BTW, this same insurance won't cover my Vitamin K anymore, because they don't cover vitamins! Out of pocket will be over $300. per month, so I guess it is bye-bye Mephyton. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

That sucks! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> I switched from Advair to Symbicort because Advair kept giving me thrush. I have not had the thrush issues with Symbicort, and I don't notice a difference in how it helps my breathing. I think it would be worth at least giving it a try. If it you don't like it, you can always go back to Advair.

Several doctor's offices have coupons for Advair. You can call a local pulm office and ask them for the phone # for the GSK sales rep and see if they have coupons for you. I have seen $25-$30 off coupons recently for Advair.

In the meantime, you can each get a free Rx from GSK here http://www.advair.com/asthma/coupons-and-special-offers/coupons-and-special-offers.html

My 14yr old son uses Symbicort and it seems to help him, at least when he's not really sick (all bets are off then.) We saw an increase in his pft's, esp small airways, when he started it, moreso than with a prior controller med.

My daughter tried it with less success- but she does not do well with inhalers to begin with vs nebulized medications, so it may not be Symbicort specifically that did not work well.

However, we cannot compare it with Advair- neither of them have been on that one.

I was on Symbicort a while ago, but it didnt seem to do much. Switched to Advair, it worked much better for me.
You may be completely different, Symbicort may work better for you than Advair : )
I hope the financial stuff works out OK for you.
