I have an 8 week old little boy, Grayson. We were told cpt needs to be done twice p/ day approx 1-2 hours after he eats. He sleeps approx 16 hours per day. When he wakes up....he is ready to eat!!!! If we perform the cpt before he eats he screams terribly. Should we wake him up? Also, he sometimes coughs and has spit up. Is that normal or should I be worried? If anyone has any advice...please let me know. The enzymes and vitamins are easy.....we struggle with cpt.
Michelle~ mother of Madison, age 6, Morgan, age 11, and Grayson, 8 wks w/ cf

Chances are good that you can do it while he is sleeping. Many of the babies & young children either sleep thru it or fall asleep during it.

This includes the Vest & manual CPT. Good Luck! Dont lose hope.
At that age the idea is to get the stuff loose so fit it in anyway possible.

Does you son eat and then fall right off to sleep again? If not, you can wait and then try to PUT him to sleep by doing CPT. Either that, or do your CPT before he wakes up. More cuddle time for you. It doesn't have to be a big deal. I used to put my daughter on my shoulder and because she was so tiny I could get both sides and her back done, and then turn her around on my lap for the front.

I promise it gets easier.

When DS was first diagnosed and in the NICU we were doing CPT 4-5 times a day and feedings every 3-4 hours, so he spent a lot of time sleeping or falling asleep during cpt. We usually did CPT before eating and a lot of times he was sleeping. I still do CPT instead of vesting for the early morning treatment and he sleeps thru it.
