This is a new one for me so I'm wondering what you guys think. I've been on IV's a lot lately and just a couple weeks ago I got a 'bruise' on the side of my foot, it hurt and a little puffy, then on my other foot one of my toes started hurting, slowly over the last couple weeks I have three toes on my right foot that hurt and are puffy and on my left foot both sides of my foot are red and puffy and hurt.

I mentioned this to the dr. and she said it could be the drugs, I did start on two new ones but not at the same time and not when this all started. There isn't any numbness so that's good, but they haven't gone away either!

Any thoughts? Thanks.

It sounds like gout to me. I had it in my finger. Mine was caused by fish. There are numerous sites to look into it by googling, but certain antibiotics & infection are triggers. Hope you get it taken care of.....

Haven't thought of Gout Melissa, thanks, I'll have to research that.

Antibiotic wise I'm on:

Zithromax
Minocycline
Amikacin
Levaquin

If it's gout that stinks but it's not an emergency issue. If it's your Liver it is more emergency and they should look into it before damage occurs.

The fact you have been on a lot of drugs lately makes me think your Liver is a more likely culprit. I would push to have them take this seriously.

Now this sounds almost familiar, but tno exactly the same. After my last emboization on Oct.31, the very next day i noticed small bruises on some of my finger tips. Thought it was from finger sticks but found it odd that it was only on the right hand and not the left. Each area that had a bruise hurt. This lasted for about a month before it started to go ease up a bit. 3 fingers in particular had it the worst, and took longer for the bruising to go away and also for the pain to go away. I asked my intervention radiologist if it could be some really odd form of an after effect of the embolization and he said its always possible, wlthough he never heard of it. When i read your symptoms it just reminded me of my similar symptoms but in my fingers, not my toes. I was on Amikacin and Aztrenam both for the first time. I also wondered if it could be one of them....seing you are on Amikacin, having similar symptoms to what i had, is makiing me wonder now. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Debbie, thanks for suggesting the liver, they have been looking at that, taking levels every week it is higher, meaning some of the ducts might be blocked, I have (and the dr.) have been worried about my liver because of how much Tylenol I was taking for an entire week when I had continous fevers! Luckily the fevers are gone now so I don't take as much tylenol, sadly I still take some once maybe twice a day.

Diane, yeah, Amikacin is a strong drug and I've been on it now for 6 weeks straight! Plus only having 2 two week periods of a break in the last 4 months of antibiotics so I know my body has a little overload. I should only be on IV's one more week and then off hopefully for a couple weeks. I do still need to research the gout thing.

Thanks everyone this is very helpful.
