I started inhaled tobi 2 weeks ago for staph (ran out of oral meds) and everything was going well...I take my albuterol before it. I was also on doxy for 2 weeks and just finished that up on Wednesday.
On Friday, all day it felt like there was a vice grip around my lungs. I had a really hard time getting a deep breath and had a dry cough that didn't do anything. Nothing I did (meds, etc) seemed to help. I was almost to the point where I wanted to go get my oxygen checked and just make sure there isn't anything seriously wrong.
Yesterday I started coughing up some stuff that seemed like it was really deep down. It also has a wierd taste when I cough it up. When I take breaths after coughing I can taste it when I breathe...its wierd. Yesterday I felt like I cleared a lot of it out. I have cultured PA twice (once 8 years ago and once 6 years ago) and haven't again since then.
Today is a little better...no vicegrip arouond my lungs since that one day-but I am still coughing gunk up. When I sleep at night I sometimes sound rattly when I am breathing-which I never have. My FEV1 last clinic was 95%.
Any ideas of what is going on?? I figure that I am on inhaled antibiotics so I can't be sick...right?? I thought yesterday it was just gunk deep down that the Tobi is getting out??

I would talk with you doc since you are new to TOBI and just let him know what you are experiencing. But based on my experience TOBI works wonders for me and I can not live without it. I actually need to be on it all the time but I can't and that is another story of what I am trying on my off months of TOBI. It could be that the TOBI is really loosening things up for you and when I cough up junky mucus it does have a bad taste. Also, the tightness could be that you are moving the mucus and it is breaking up so it is clogging things up and therefore you feel the tightness. Once the mucus is clearing with the TOBI the tightness might go away OR you could use some albuterol before tobi to open up and calm down any bronchio spasms and it could be combination of both just mentioned. I would talk with doctor and explain your symptoms and see what he/she says and also tell him about some of the suggestions as causes of what I mentioned or anyone else mentions and see what doc says to do.

GOOD luck!

Thanks for the reply-I will call my clinic and let them know what is going on.
This morning I also coughed up just a teeny bit of blood-like the size of a grain of rice-so nothing to worry about I'm sure...but I never cough up blood!
I do a puff of albuterol before the Tobi and I feel fine while doing the Tobi.
I just think its wierd that this started 2 weeks into it! The first 2 weeks were fine. It kind of feels like I have some kind of infection going on??

Marci,
It could be that you are fighting an infection-maybe a bug that does not respond as well to the TOBI. Also, the tobi has been known to cause bleeding. Hoping for better days ahead.
