Okay, I know that antibiotics and pain medicine (especially tylenol) will affect your kidneys, I've been on a lot of antibiotics and pain medicine lately, though I have been off antibiotics now for two weeks, but I am still taking perscription as well as tylenol and ibuprophen a lot more than normal.

So this afternoon I got a little pain in my back just below my ribs, my husband said that's where my kidney's are and now I'm freaking out!!!!!!! Is there anything I can do to help them? What should I do now? I really really don't want kidney problems right now. Anything I can do kinda to see if it will fix it? and of course just my luck, my cf dr. and staff is at a conf. thur. and fri.!!!!!!

Please help, I'm really worried. I guess I should say I have been having fevers too so I can't let up on the tylenol. UUGGGHHH.............

Calm down and breathe <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. Yes your kidneys are around that area, but it could be muscle. What kind of pain are you experiencing? Sharp and stabbing, dull and ache, does it get better when you change positions? It could be a kidney stone. That would be a sit a wait game. Just drink a lot of water. I think for antibiotics and tylenol to really mess up your kidneys you have to be on high doses for a long time. So that shouldnt be it. I some times have random fevers for no reason. I have had fevers because of pain. Fevers from being on so many drugs then coming off. How high are your fevers? low grade or over 100.6?

My fevers range from 99.5 to 102, mostly in the 100-101. I was thinking maybe some of my fevers were because of my pain because they would happen when I was in my most pain. I'm doing therapy right now so I really can't feel the pain now, it was kinda sharp is I moved, it very well could be a muscle, I realized it after I woke up from my nap and I slept a little on my right side (which I've only done like two times since my surgery) so it could have been that position, I now I should give it a little time, I'm just worried if it doesn't go away tomorrow.

Thanks for your comment though Danyell it helped.

Try to put a cold (or heat depends on what you respond best too) compress on it and see if it helps ease it off some. I do better with cold packs, you may do better with a heating pad. I think the rule is 20 mins on (at the most), 10 mins off (minimium). Hope you get feeling better.

Added: Since you have a fever already, you might want to go with cold, help cool you down as well.

Just to throw my 2 cents in, I did experience kidney issues b/c of ibuprofen but it was after many years of taking too much. My first reaction is that it is just some other muscle pain or something. I get a strange aches in my back if I sleep for too long in one spot too. It could many minor things, just so you know. That's the worst when you start worrying over something that ends up not nearly as serious as your mind thought it was. So try to stay calm and not let your mind play games.....the heat pack sound nice. Give it a few days and keep track of whether the pain shifts or fades away or whether it acts up after doing something in particular.

The aches might just be due to your fever. I hope you feel better!!!!

I JUST had the same pain. Mine did end of being a kidney stone but the pain was so bad that I couldn't handle it. If it isn't that bad then I wouldn't worry too much. You would also get other symptoms if it was a stone. When they thought it was a muscle they told me to put cold on it for the first few days and then heat.

If it gets worse you can get a urine test to determine if it is kidneys. I hope you feel better, this is probably the last thing you want right now!
