I just wanted to let you all know I visited my nephew last night. Its only been a day but he looks and acts much better even with the tubes comong out of him. He had his first dose of enzymes yesterday and did fine. He actually has color and doesn't cry when you put him down unless the nurse is shoving something in him. The nurses are wonderful. One came in to do the CPT when we were there and I had to say something about she needed to be more gentle but she was nice and demonstrated on my arm that it wasn't as hard as it looked. They said he will be in there for 2 weeks at least. My family is taking turns on going down and keeping my sister company. Poor thing is exhausted. Thanks for all the prayers even though this is just the begining of our adventure.

On a side note my nephew shares a room with this other little boy, he's 3 months. He has been there since Monday and only had visitors last night when we where there. His mom and great aunt came in for about an hour. His mom is 13 years old, she went to pick him up and he started to scream and she sad to her aunt "see I told you he didn't like me" and she went out of the room. I saw her later doing crafts with the other children like she was one of the patients. Her aunt satyed in the room and held him for a little bit and when he went to sleep they left. Its was super sad. My little sister says the many volunteers and nurses always come by and play with him and talk to him b/c no one is there. My little sister visits with him as well when my nephew is sleeping. From what I got he doesn't have CF, he had aherneia (sp) and after the operation was running a high temp and couldn't keep his food down. Poor, poor baby. I guess no spoke with this child about birth control or the consequenses af being sexually active especially at 13.

I just had to share b/c it broke me heart!

Glad to hear that your nephew and sister are doing well. The outlook for CF patients is so much better nowadays. I wish you all the best of luck!

I Hope your nephew has a quick recovery. My daughter with CF would actually fall asleep while we did chest PT on her as a newborn, I think it relaxed her. 2 weeks feels like an eternity in a hospital. You definately learn real quick who your true family and friends are.

Sounds like your little nephew is getting the treatment he needs. CPT is hard to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you realize that you can't just "pat" them. It's good for the familyt o all rally around your sister-- a hospital experience is both physically, and emotionally draining.

It's so sad about the other little boy. I wonder who's going to have custody of him--the mother is to young to be a proper guardian.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay! I'm so glad to hear your nephew is doing better! Just wait another week...you'll see an even bigger improvement! Isn't it crazy?

The other story (of the baby) just breaks my heart. Not only b/c it's alone, but b/c of the age of the mom. There was a little girl at our hospital about 8 or 9 with CF and was always alone...it was such a sad story. Ugh.

I'll be thinking and praying for you, your nephew, your sister (and family) and the baby (roommate)!

Keep us updated if you can!

I am so glad tp hear that your nephew is getting good care and improving!

That was so sad about the other child. We always count our blessings after being at the hospital because of the family situations other children are in.
