New bug - Escherichia coli

I just got a letter from my doctor in the mail over the weekend saying that I have a new bug called Escherichia coli growing in my lungs. Has anyone had this or been treated for it? I have never cultured this before or even heard of it. It looks as though I picked up a fairly resistant strain.

Thanks so much in advance!

Escherichia coli (or E. coli) is not typically grown in the lungs. You will usually find it in your colon or urinary tract. I have never personally had it, but a friend of mine did and hers was related to an E. Coli UTI. I also know that it can cause pneumonia if not treated. Is your doctor treating it with ABX?
That is all the info Iknow about it, hope youc an get rid of it soon!

this is typicall in the urinary tract (my daughter have it once when she had urinary infection), but the son of one of my friends that has cf got it last month in his lungs, and with a course of antibiotic it was over.
My friend told me that when she change diapers to him (he is just one year old) he always put his hand in his poo, and well you know the rest of the story.

My daughter, who is 5, just cultured this for the first time. We were already doing IV anitbitoics (Nafcillin) for her Staph, which was acting up. They just added IV Cefepime to cover the E. Coli. This was the first time she had ever cultured E. coli.
