New bug - Escherichia coli

I cultured it once a couple of years ago along with my typical PA and MRSA. My doctor put me on the typical drugs for the other two, and it took care of the E. Coli as well.

The doctor told me she didn't think it would colonize, although it could pop up periodically. So far it's never shown up again.

When Emily had her sinus surgery in June, they cultured the gobs of stuff that was removed. These cultures showed loads of e.coli. It hadn't shown up on a regular sinus culture before, probably just because they weren't able to get deep enough in when they swabbed.

She was treated with onmicef for 20 days to get the e.coli...she will be cultured again soon...although I don't have much confidence that a regular sinus swab will tell us what we need to know. Guess we should be more vigilant about sinus rinses, huh?

I forgot to ask if anyone experienced increased respiratory symptoms or otherwise while culturing this? I've had increased coughing, more reactive airways and a lot of joint pain the past week and a half. It could be because I've been around so many people with colds now that school has started and I may have just gotten one. It can be hard for me to tell sometimes if its my cf acting up or if its a cold.

Yes, but since my culture also grew PA and MRSA at the same time as the E. Coli, I don't know what part of the problem it was actually causing.
