Gilead Sciences Inc. announced today it is facing challenges meeting demand for its inhaled antibiotic Cayston<sup>®</sup>. The company said it is working as quickly as possible to address this problem, but that at this time it does not know how long the shortage of Cayston will last.During the period of limited supply, Gilead said its highest priority will be to supply Cayston to those who are regularly using the drug. Active Cayston users will be able to refill prescriptions at their specialty pharmacy when they are due to start their next course of treatment.
According to the company, those with new prescriptions for Cayston are likely to encounter delays starting treatment until the shortage is over. People who have a significant medical need for Cayston and no other adequate treatment alternative may be considered for an exception through a separate medical process.
Gilead recommends that doctors consider alternatives for treating their patients until the supply issue is resolved. The problem currently affects the United States only.
The CF Foundation will keep the CF community notified as updates become available.

FYI new cayston users
So I have been on Cayston for a year now and due to various circumstances (and a pain in my butt insurance company) I might have to submit a NEW prescription for Cayston to a NEW pharmacy. Will I be viewed as a new user of Cayston and be in the situation where I don't get my prescription filled? How would I prove that I've been on it for a year so that I could still get it and whom would I have to prove this to? Gilead? The pharmacy? Thanks all.
