Hi all!

I got a new bedspread and had the best night's sleep I've had in years. I realized that the dust from my old bedspread had really been exacerbating my CF and cough and allergies (I'm allergic to dust.) Food for thought: wash your bedding, or upgrade for improved CF management! Soooo worth it :)

Was it by chance a hypo-allergenic bedspread? I was thinking that when I get my new mattress next month I would get one of those hypo-allergenic, waterproof sheets for under my regular sheet to help some of that gross dust in the sheets. Curious how much it really helps. You can get them to put under your pillow cases too.

Even though I had 5 yrs of allergy shots two times in my almost forty years, I still have to watch out for dust (as well as strong odors, fumes, smoke).

Some things you can do are regularly wash bedding, put your mattress and boxspring in plastic cases, have no carpet or large rugs in your bedroom, and BEWARE of season changes. What I mean is when you pull out blankets and sweaters from storage for the cold seasons or vice versa, the items can be really dusty--invisibly. If you stored them clean, it will feel wasteful to wash them again, but for some people, that is simply what you have to do. And storing in plastic bins, while better than just on a shelf, does not seem to eliminate dust. Another issue is when you go to visit someone and sleep in their never used guest room. It can be clean, but very dusty. The bedspread, decorative pillows, even the regular pillows. (I wish I could say I have a inoffensive-to-the-hosts action plan for that, but I don't -- I just add OTC allergy meds to my regimen.)
