Have a two week old nephew in hospital. he had maconium ilius at birth they suspect cf. we got results back from his pku which was positive they are now running more test. can you have a false positive with this test. just trying to find out all the information i can to help our little guy.

Our son was diagnosed when he was about a week old. Born with meconium illeus. The surgeons indicated that based on his symptoms, he most likely had CF. And basic genetic blood tests came thru a few days later indicating he did in fact have cf.
No family history and both sides of the family have very extensive geneologies that go back hundreds of years.
It's my understanding that sometimes newborn screenings can indicate possible CF; however, usually more extensive testing is conducted.
