I am not a parent, but I have CF and so does my brother. He's had 2 g-tubes, one when he was a baby because he was in and out of the hospital so much dealing with a rupture in his colon from merconium illeus. And again when he was about 11 or 12 because he was the worst eater and wasn't growing. It was such a blessing! He was so much healthier, gained weight like crazy, grew, didn't get sick as often. I know you're going through a lot just being diagnosed and now with this. There are always risks with any surgery, but g-tubes these days are really easy to take care of now. I know some people even change the tubes themselves if needed. And if it helps your baby gain weight then its probably for the best, especially if she's not a good eater, she needs proper nutrition!

This thread discussed g-tube last week. Check it out & if you have any questions, please email me at seanandkaron@comcast.net. My daughter had a tube put in last summer and she has gained 8 lbs so far. She was 4 when it was put in.

I would say the g tube was the best decision that we made. My son at age 12 1/2 was only 64 lbs. He was not gaining weight or growing. The doctors had listed him as failure to thrive. We have had the feeding tube a year and two months and he has grew almost five inches and his weight last week was 90lbs. We would have never gotten there by himself. He looks and feels lots better.
