I have a port in my upper right chest, right above my boob. I love it, I've had to replace it once and I've had this one for five years. After my transplant the doctors suggested I get it removed but I wanted to keep it for a while...its my security blanket! And its a good thing I kept it because I ended up going into rejection and started having to use it more.

My daughter has one on her right chest also, this is actually her 2nd her first was placed was she was about 2 and we just replaced that one in 09. She loves having it, she is a really bad stick then when they do get an iv started the vein blows normally within 24 hours or less, so this is just much easier for her and it also allows us the freedom to come home on iv meds after your initial few days at the hospital for treatment!

I have one in the right side of my chest about 2 inches or so below the collar bone. i love love love it! my veins finally got to the point where they just couldn't get picc lines in me anymore. IR said they wouldn't even try another one after my final one took almost 3 hours to place, involved angioplasty and several of the surgeons trying. it wasn't pretty and my mom was totally freaking out because it wasn't supposed to take that long! anyway, yeah, ports are great. they can break, clot, etc. but the benefits totally outweigh any negatives for me at least.

wow Jaime, you're pretty! Oops did I say that out loud!? my bad...

Anyway, I had a port when I was 15-16, it lasted about a month and it had to be removed. I haven't had one since due to the fact I'm a little scared/worried that the same thing will happen.. However, Blue eyes from what everyone has told me they are really, really good and for the month I had one I gotta admit it's way better than having a picc line or nurses always trying to get another Iv line in because the other one is sore etc..

Hi!

I have had a port for a year and a half, and it was probably the best healthcare decision I've ever made! I had been worried about the scar/cosmetic issues of having one, but the scar is small and it doesn't protrude much. Mine is in my left upper chest. If you have any questions about the procedure, I'd be happy to talk to you about it! Feel free to PM me.
