Go for it! Congrats! If your CF becomes more complicated and more challenging many many years down the road.... the STD, LTD and if needed SSD will kick in.
<br />Working is an invaluable life choice - there is so much to gain - way beyond just the income.

How old are you now? With how the job sounds, it seems like there will be no problem in the future with you having enough credits to qualify for SSDI. Does you state offer medical coverage for "workers with disabilities", because a lot of states do offer that. It's an offshoot of medicaid, but the income qualifications are a lot better because it is designed for someone who is working. It could help to supplement your ins. from work.

also, I saw someone make a comment about aflac or a similar policy. I can't stress enough how important getting a policy like this is. I still have my ex husband covered on my policy, and he was hospitalized for 5 days in February. He ended up getting a check for $3200 for those 5 days of hospitalization. Aflac doesn't cover CFers anymore... however Combined Insurance does and a number of other CFers from this site have recently gotten coverage from them. Just look into it, it will really come in handy if you get sick.

And then also familiarize yourself with FMLA (well, depending on the size of your company).

That is so exciting to hear. Congrats. I am glad you are calling the CF legal hotline. Beth is amazing at giving out advice.

I am on SSDI, which is different then SSI because it is based on my work history. I am also on the "working disabled" In SC it is still medicaid but I am allowed to make a little money and not lose it.

I work as a Registered Nurse when I can. I am not sure about SSI but I know for SSDI they cover you for a long time if you try to go back to work and are not able to. That is why talking to Beth is best, but I know for me, if I try to go back to work and am not successful, any month that I don't make over a thousand dollars, I can collect my SSDI money, even once I come off of it, up to a certain time, but again, I am not totally clear how that applies to you.

I am so thrilled, your post is so full of life. I can not wait until the day I can go back to work full time, or even part time.

Congrats to you. Be very proud of yourself, you have overcome a lot of adversity!!!
