Hello all! I have visited the forums before, but this is my first post. I am a 26 year old in Lincoln, Nebraska with CF. I have a question that someone out there may be able to help me with. I am going to Palm Springs, California to visit my sister on Wednesday (7/11). At home I use the vest for airway clearance, but I have the huge one that I've had for almost ten years. Needless to say...it doesn't travel well. When I travel I normally take my hand held percussor, but it is heavy and a pain to lug around. I am wondering if anyone knows of a medical equipment place in that area where I could possibly rent one? My sister called around and nobody seemed to really even know what she was talking about. I'm quite sure I will once again be taking mine with me but I thought I could give this a shot and maybe someone would know something I didn't. Also I'm nervous about carrying on all of my liquid medications (pulmozyme, mucomyst, albuterol) with the new security measures. Anyone have any advice to offer in that department??? Thanks a bunch and I look forward to hearing from others with CF!!

Hello and welcome!! I wish I had some good advice for you, but all I can say is that, in my experience, traveling is a huge pain in the butt (but it CAN be done). I have never thought of renting a vest at my destination - Usually, I just take some other form of airway clearance (Acapella, flutter, or rely on someone to give me CPT wherever I'm going). I also usually get stuck in security and have my suitcase opened up because they think my neb. compressor is a bomb!

I haven't flown since the new security measures went into effect. I suggest calling the airline ahead of time, explaining your "disability" and need for accommodation and getting some sort of clearance ahead of time for your meds. Hopefully some others with more experience will respond with better suggestions.

Good luck and happy travels!! Hope to see you here more often <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I just sent you a PM. I think I can help you work something out! I'm within driving distance of your sister. I have an old vest that I would be willing to let you use during your visit to CA. Email me (poolsofgrace@gmail.com) and perhaps we can get something set up.

Have a great trip!
