Next Steps

My daughter had a sinus ct and her sinuses are blocked. She is also growing some gram negative bacteria (more results pending) and some sort of fungus. The pulmanologist is consulting with his partners on how to proceed with my 3 kids. The two options are do outpatient broncs and set up home iv's or in patient with all three. My husband and I are so overwhelmed and have for so long wanted to believe none of this is true.

My son's pft went from 100% down to 67% so we need to find the cause. We are going to talk at the beginning of next week to map out a plan. This is all new to us so we don't know the best way to proceed. They wanted to start my daughter on another new antibiotic for the weekend but my husband and I don't want to keep throwing them at her until we know exactally what is going on (especially since she is growing a fungus.) I guess we will just have to wait until next week.

I'll definitely be praying for your family. Have you guys ever stayed in the hospital before? It can be kind of overwhelming at first. We have done bronchs both as in-patient and out-patient. I prefer out-patient because then we can go home. In-patient is pretty easy too but you have to be on the nurses schedule and that can be frustrating especially when you are trying to stay in a routine, but if ya'll have not had a hospital tune-up I say you might want to go in and learn everything you can from them. When we first found out Ellie had CF we stayed in the hospital for about a week and a half. We got comfortable then we decided we could try the IV's at home. I practiced in front of the nurses in the hospital several times just to make sure we had it right. Now it's pretty simple. When Ellie is on IV's we do have dr. appts. once a week just to make sure everything is going well. I'm sort of type a and like to have control of everything and so it's easier to do that at home and you are definitely more aware about what's going on with your kiddos than the nurses who see them once or twice a day. My advice would be to do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. Take baby steps and definitely lean on us for anything, especially venting out your frustrations or advice. You can pm me anytime or email me at shimmereestar@yahoo.com. We're here for you.

Unfortunately they have all been in the hospital a few times. My husband and I think in patient is going to be the best way b/c my daughter also needs sinus surgery. The pulmanologist wants to try to do everything at once. I don't know if I could do home iv's on all three.

Thanks for the responses and support!
