NG tubes vs G tubes

Last night I talked with Parker's mom (she and I divorced when he was 6 month old) and she does not think she can handle him with the NG tube when he comes to visit her. I am not sure how today will play out. I like the idea of giving him 2 weeks or so to try the NG tube. Personally I think giving him a tube and having him demonstrate how to do it today would be all that was needed to show him that surgery hurts less in the long run. His mom noted that when he gets overly excited, he will not want to eat and then becomes rude and hyper and totally self centered. I think he gets like that because at times he is spoiled and I am trying to break him of that now rather than later. We shall see. This month is the "month of the knife" in our house. Parker has his tube and my wife has to have her tonsils out (a pain as a child, a problem as an adult to say the least) and I have to have my three remaining wisdom teeth pulled (see previous ()). There might be a point this month where all three of us get soft food or mush. I must be sure not to mix them up. ... but I digress. I will let ya'll know what happens today.

Jim, if you go on YouTube they have videos of people getting NG tubes put in (just search for NG Tube). Sort of weird to watch.

Jim,
How long does your ex have him for? If its a weekend deal, you maybe alright with skipping the feedings during that time. When I was a kid my dad had me every other weekend. In that case, skipping to nights every two weeks, well, I don't think that would hurt since this is supplmental feedings. Your son maybe able to feel the difference, and if he gets to be a pill your ex may very well decided the feedings are worth it. Kind of like the NG deal, let them decide for themself the feedings are needed during their stay

We went to the clinic today. Parker was able to talk with his doctor about the concerns he has with the tube and they were mostly related to whether or not people would see it. Parker talked about his concerns and listened to why his doctor did not think the NG tube was a good idea. He was a little aggrivated but he agreed to do the G tube instead. We scheduled the procedure for next Friday. I think his other concerns was tied to shots and surgery. Since they will knock him out he is not as concerned. I hope it goes well. I am not behind the curve about knowledge about what all I need to do (i.e. how to use it, where to get formula, cleaning of the tubes, and any other issues). So now I start working to gain that knowledge. Away we go.....
