nicotine and transplant

does anybody know if mild-tobacco use (thru snus) would be bad while waiting for lung tx /??? i know tobacco is bad for you and the Dr would obviously say "no", but sometimes i need a "little something" to deal with the stress of waiting. would it interfere with the drugs they give you to put you under ?? any info would help

My docs said not to even be around smoking because if it's detected in your bloodwork they take you off the list for like 6 months if I remember correctly.

Nicotine is a serious vasoconstrictor, and with transplant coming you shouldn't use something that closes down your blood vessels. It also encourages adrenaline production and affects insulin levels which kicks up blood sugar levels. In short, you are buggering up your blood chemistry just when you want it absolutely top shape. To help with stress levels, try learning a simple meditation to calm your thought processes. With practice, it helps with pain control as well and it's free!

many if not most centers will remove you from the list for ANY tobacco use -- including snuff or other forms of ingestion. same is true for almost any other addictive drug or substance. three words: not worth it.
