No Surgery!

Seems I'm not going under the knife, after all. My E.N.T. has decided after looking at my newest CAT scan that I don't need invasive surgery. She actually said my sinuses look very good for a CF patient with chronic sinusitus!

Just thought I'd give you all an update. Now I can continue my hunt for the elusive Wii console...*grumble*

Awesome, thats great news. I'm sure you're relieved.

Question-Had you had previous CAT scans that showed that you would need surgery? Just curious-I'm not familiar with your situation. I had a cat scan a 1.5 yr ago and the ent said surgery wasn't an emergency situation, but that I was a candidate for it, so since it wasn't really pressing I decided to wait. I'm thinking of getting a second opinion. I mean, I don't want to have surgery just to have it, if I really don't need it. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks, everyone, for your congrats. And yes, I'm VERY relieved!

Debbi, thanks for the link. I'm actually on that page right now thinking up a battle plan for the weekend...lol.

Christian, I'd had the surgery done about a two years ago because I was having horrible sinus symptoms. At that time, my E.N.T. did a CAT scan and decided to go ahead and do the surgery to give me some relief. And it did help quite a bit. I've been getting sick frequently in the past three months, so it was recommended that I have my sinuses checked again. I was having terrible headaches, post-nasal drip, the works. So I did two weeks of I.V. drugs and I just went back to see my E.N.T (same one as before) with new CAT films. After looking at them, she decided that surgery wasn't essential at this point, especially if my symptoms had cleared up. According to her, symptoms play a major factor in choosing to proceed with a FESS or not. She told me simply to keep an eye on things and keep doing my saline nasal wash to prevent any further blockages. I would say if you aren't having major issues with your sinuses as of yet, I would wait. You can get a second opinion if you'd like, of course, but if surgery isn't really nescessary, I wouldn't bother just yet.
