Nose + Boogers

Okay so I use a nasal spray every night. I've never done a nasal flush before. The right side of my nose is currently driving me BATTY (I guess I should add that the right is the only side I ever had polyps in.. but that was 19 years ago, and while my doc always says it looks a little "irritated," I haven't had polyps in it since I was 5). There's stuff up there that will NOT let go. So here's my question...

What's the best way to do it? I've never done it, I really don't have <u>any</u> idea how to do it, other than maybe to shove saline up there with force. I looked at an older thread:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.cysticfibrosis.com/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=21873&highlight_key=y&keyword1=nasal%20wash
">http://forums.cysticfibrosis.c...keyword1=nasal%20wash
</a>
And it helped... but what do I do if I want to do it at home without buying some thingie? I'd rather just grab one of the millions of saline flushes I have, or boil some water and add salt, or whatever. So if I'm doing it at home... how do I mix it? How do I actually do it? (positions, do I suck it in with my nose, do I have to do it over the sink, etc.) And I saw Amy mention hers hurt... how often is that the case for people? I'd rather not have it suck more than need be.

<i>(<b>Edited to add:</b> I just sneezed like 5 times and a hard thing came out, so that's good... but I'd still like to get in there).</i>

Sooooo please help me with my annoying boogers, people! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Make sure the water is warm, but not cold. Cold water will make more boogers. Make sure you test the water on your skin first to be sure that it's not too hot. I boil water on the stove for five minutes, and I pour a little salt in there while it's boiling. I think the more salt you use the more stuff you'll get out. I think a table spoon to start out with? Not sure of exact measurements, as I use those little packets now that come with the sinus tea pot thing. <br><br>
I stand over the sink, and I have a roll of toilet paper handy so I can blow my nose here and there. You have to just make sure you are comfortable. Sometimes it's easier for me to hold my breath, sometimes it's easier to breathe a little through my mouth. I think you just need to do it a couple of times and you'll know what works for you.<br><br>
Hopefully someone on here has a better step by step than I do, I'm just rambling, but hopefully it may help!<br><br>
One option is to get some of that mucinex nose spray, it can help you blow some stuff out of there. <br><br>Good luck!

Use some Sudafed (make sure it's pseudoephedrine..... not Sudafed PE).

that will open up your nasal terbinantes <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

you dont want to rinse with plain water since its hypotonic it will burn like hell, especially cold or hot, you need jsut 'warm'. I don thave any advice on the delivery system.

fyi, if you give up neil med is $10 at pharmacy, comes with delivery system and 50 rinses.
