hi everyone- so i know this is kinda werid, but i just found out i have to have another surgery for sinus polyps. if anyone has any kind of encouragement, that would be great, because this is going to be my 6th surgery. after that surgery, im going to stay in the hospital for a clean out.

this is isnt the reason though that im posting, i had an akward question, that i feel my be totally absurd to ask: has anyone ever had, or heard of, someone getting a nose job who has had polyp removal surgery or getting it at the same time? haha, i no its weird, but im not too fond of my nose, and i figure if there gunne be up there anyways... lol, well if anyone's got anything for me, it will be much appreiciated

I havent heard of anyone getting another surgery in the area having it done at the same time. It is 2 different approaches & I am not sure the doctors (although you can find one for the right price) would do it combined. The swelling from having to break the nose for the reconstruction might interfere with the polyps or another sinus issues making it more difficult. I am totally assuming this, but it sees to make sense to me.

I'd think that Melissa would be right on that one. They didn't want to place my g-tube a move my port from an awkward place to a nice one all at once [long story] because it would be a 'dirty' surgery. Two sites open at once and risk of infection to the portacath blah blah blah. Finally got them to agree to do it. Ironically enough it was my g-tube that got an infection later.
Bleh.
I always refer to my sinus surgeries as nose jobs ^_^

haha well thanks for the responses. i remember when i was younger, i didnt mind getting blood drawn, or IV's put in...but it was shots that really got me. So i asked the doctor if, while i was having surgery, he could give me my flu shot! the first thing i said when i came out was 'did he give me the shot!?!?', and thankfully he had! now, i get my longlines put in while im in surgery because its not the pain that puts me over, but the stress i get when i know i have to get one! haha...killing 2 birds with one stone, i guess! (thats such an akward saying...)

and now in school, when i say i have to have surgery, and people ask me what its for, i just say im getting a nose job. unfortunatly, i don't have a very good poker face, and i end cracking up at their reaction!

Thanks again -Kate

I HATE shots. I can deal with IV, blood draw even the picc lines, but I whimper like a puppy when I have to get my flu shots. The recently retired nurse in my cf clinic actually "yelled" at me one year because I was carrying on such a fuss. She was a Nun & very quiet so when she raised her voice, you listened. LOL.......I whimpered quietly after that!

candice, i have a question-i have a port and it's in a terrible place! it's right between my boobs and it drives me crazy when it's accessed...but i just got it put in in may05, so i thought i'd have to wait until it was at least 5 years old or something to get it moved to a better place...did they move yours just because it was in a bad place?
thanks

Maggie,
I've had two ports placed and always get them at the hollow under my collar bone near my shoulder. Made carrying a backpack a pain in the but because I could really just use one shoulder for stability but eh. That should give you an idea of where it was placed. When they placed the second one they actually placed it in the most akward place, almost nearly in my armpit instead of in that nice hollow spot. [which fits a port perfectly] Now having it there was a pain in the butt when they tried to access it, plus it moved around a lot. So... finally told them to move it, they weren't happy about hearing that since they thought they did a good job, but we weren't happy. So they didn't take it out and find a new spot they just really, as far as I know, pushed it upwards more so it slid into that spot. I might be wrong but I don't think so since the pain wasn't nearly as bad as getting it placed. If your site is bothering you I'd ask your doctors about it, they might be able to do something about it.

My best friend had to have sinus surgery last year and she got her nose job done at the same time. And somewhat along those lines - though not quite the same I had an elective (cosmetic) surgery done about 5 years ago during a medically necessary surgery. I had to have a tumor removed from my right breast - I had always wanted to have a breast enlargement. I figured that since they were already cutting on the breast and I was going to have reconstructive surgery done (my breasts were so small that this lump removal was going to basically leave me without a left breast) that I would go ahead and have breast enlargement at the same time. I've been very happy with the results and figured that God works in mysterious ways because I would have never undergone cosmetic surgery and placed myself at risk with the anesthesia.

I love my port under my arm (just below my armpit). Clothing never irritates this area and the port is well hidden when my arm is down at my side. I have not had a bit of trouble out of it. My surgeon also chose this area because I am so thin and if it was placed anywhere on my chest or below my collarbone it would stick out like a cyclops.
