I have a similar fev1 at 25% and am currently being evaluated for transplant. When I did my walk test I desated to 83 after about 400ft or so. I can't exercise without O2 now and this wasn't the case a couple of months ago. It seemed for me like it changed overnight, one day I could walk on the treadmill for 30+ mins with no problems and now I have to be on 6L of oxygen to do that. Some days are better than others, maybe you were just having an off day?

I havent been in the hospital since jan of 07. Ive been steady since then but I go up and down in numbers, but i never come back up as high as I was. I dont feel bad at all. Its weird. I did this 2 times where I desat'ed. I dont do it at the gym though. I think it may be anxiety induced. Its a new clinic, all new machines etc. I have no idea. Noone has ever talked about transplants yet, and I wont want to even think about it. I am going nuts at the moment with all the crap running through my head.

Walking on the treadmill and walking as fast as you can on your own steam for the 6 minute walk, are two quite different things. The treadmill actually does a bit of the work for you, so you're not working your lungs as hard as if you were to do a really brisk 30 minute walk outside.

We don't do the 6 min walk here, we do this awful shuttle test that is like interval training, i loathe it and i desat to around 88 when i do it. Yet in the gym on the treadmill at similar speeds to you, i don't go any lower than about 91-92.

Don't panic, i don't think your lungs are any worse than you thought they were, nor is it anxiety, it's just the difference in effort needed for the 6 minute walk vs the treadmill.

At 23% you should be on a transplant list yesterday. If you don't have an objection to a TX, you need to see someone TODAY.

At 23%, you're a bad cold away from being in an induced coma. I hope this scares the crap out of you.

Isn't anyone else out there freaked out about this thread????

OK yes you've managed to accomplish scaring the crap out of me. Thank you. I dont know what to do here. I have been in the 40's and 30's for the last 5 or so years. I am having major anxiety and depression over this whole situation. Shouldn't my Dr have mentioned this to me before?

I would go talk to the doc--don't get the crap scared out of you. Engage with what's happening, but also listen to your body. I'm not freaked out for you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I spoke to the Dr today. Said im not falling of a cliff. I'm steady and am staying where I am/have been at since July. Were going to try Cayston since I've never had it. It should help me improve a bit. I have reactive airways too and I was very/have been very tight, so the prednisone should help with that and increase my FEV1. So I start the Cayston next week and then go to the Dr's and see what happens after that.

Prednisone is awesome for opening up the airways! You should start feeling better in no time.
