Not Scandi Shakes....Any Ideas?

My step daughter needs another alternative to the Scandi Shakes as she just plain doesn't like them. Since school has started she seems to be losing a little weight. Says she doesn't have time. Last year her mom ended up having to make her drink a shake at school as she needs the extra "meal" BUT being 8 years old she thinks this is terrible! She isn't big on sweets either. Does anyone have a suggestion of something that could be sent with her besides the shakes? Is there a granola bar or some kind of high calorie high nutrition something that she might like better?

what about Ensure drinks? they come in a can and are packed full of calories and stuff. I think you actually buy them in the diet section of the store. i drank them when I was pregnant. they don't taste too bad. it's wanderlost, btw

She doesnt want to drink any shakes or just scandishakes? Do you know what it is about them she doesnt like because most shakes have a certain amount of taste/aftertaste. I have found that as long as it is COLD I can drink just about anything. I am not really big on sweets so I dilute many of them.

I think she just isn't big on anything like it due to it being so sweet. She seems to be able to drink them now and then but not often and never wants chocolate milk or anything that rich. At our house I tried putting ice cubes and then in the blender but she drank about 1/2 and left the rest. Probably needs to get use to them and then maybe not a big deal?! I always try to think of new things and help her when I can. Changing subject: Our local CF walk is next weekend. I am sad as I thought sure I could do better than I did and worked HARD all year at it! However have a bit more than I did last year so that is good and will try again next year. I made 2 quilts to raffle off even! Good grief a lot of work! People did not give near as much this year. Also looks like the turn out here for the walk is going to be very small again as well. I would like to konw how in the world people have such good fund raisers and raise so much money!

Scandishakes, Ensure, yuck yuck yuck. I hated all those things too. Have you tried Instant Breakfasts with whole milk??? Those are tasty!

I have found Boost Plus - 350 calories in 8 oz. I too find them easier to drink when cold. The other thing I have found is a yogurt - whole milk yogurt, 250 calories in one cup - I made a smoothie with a cup of milk, 1 cup of yogurt, 1 tbsp. honey, 2 tbsps crushed ice, 1 tbsp wheatgerm, and one banana. It is light, makes 2 cups, but so easy to drink and at least 400 calories, when a cup of whole milk is 150 calories also. Just a thought.

It is so much easier to lose weight then gain it, all people at work are jealous of my dilema, ah, I wish I could trade them too.

Ya know what I do is make shakes. I use brighams strawberry ice cream and milk and make a shake. They are so delicious. A few of those a day will definitely help.

Boost Plus, I swear by them. Oh and my mom made me drink Ensure at school, and I HATED it so I ended up throwing them away. Maybe you should let her go until right after school. I would have loved that.

Instant Breakfast VHC has almost 600 cals per 8 oz can. Then again, it goes down like sludge. Do kids like sludge?

I drink vanilla Ensure Plus with ice cubes. The ice cubes help with the thickness of the drink and makes it easier to drink. I never found the flavor bad, it was the thick texture that turned me off to them, but with ice they are really good.

My dietician at the cf clinic gave me some sort of cookie bar that had like 500 calories( or more) per bar. I LOVED that thing( i had the choc.chip variety) But the only problem was ....my being diabetic, it was also high in carbs and sugar so i had to eat it a small piece at a time. Maybe you could try that. I think it comes from a company called" cf source" or something like that. I dont know how many varieties they have but they might have one your step daughter might like. Might be worth a try

Those cookie bars are pretty awesome--but sort of hard to eat in one sitting because they are so big and bulky. I found if I threw it in the microwave for like, 10 seconds, and had a big glass of milk with it, it was much more enjoyable to eat.
I don't tend to have any problems with my weight unless I'm really sick, though.

Diane.. do you do carb counting? That may really help you manage your blood glucose better when you're eating stuff like those cookie bars.

Try this one:

In a blender mix her favorite ice cream and milk just enough to make it like a milkshake, then add in few tablespoons of HEAVY CREAM. The heavy cream has a lot of fat contents in it. My son loved them. In one month having two of those a day he gained 8 pounds!:rose

I also hate all the pre packaged drinks...I don't really have a weight problem now, but when I was little my mom would make me a milkshake everyday when I got home from school. Just look for the most fattening kind of ice cream at the store and use whole milk. Most every kid loves milkshakes!

After numerous conversations with my 18 month old's nutritionist and seeing my son get the shakes after drinking those sweet shakes we found the solution. 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 half and half. I'm sure you can mix it up with fruit and other things. But so far he loves it just plain. He slurps down 9 oz in 5 minutes.

I drink ScandiShakes from time to time and I agree; they are pretty bad. However, I did come up with a good way to change the taste. First, don't use the whole envelope to one cup of milk. It's just to much. Try using half or even a third of the envelope to one cup of milk and add some Hersheys chocolate syrup. A few less calories but tastes much better. I guarantee it : ).

ha ha, what? Oh, I get it, Camp Mitiog is a town and MO would be Missouri? Either that, or it's something different and I'm retarded. =-)

Anyway, I'm replying 'cause I loved ensure! Ha Ha Ha! Well, i guess not really, but I drank it when I was a kid, and I liked it better than both Scandi and Carrnation instant... I forget why i didn't like Carnation instant, though; I think it was because of something stupid like I found a bug in one package and I couldn't force myself to drink another one. I remember I hated Frosted flakes for the very same reason. =-) It wouldn't bother me now, though.

Anyway, I remember drinking ensure at school, and people would say, "Dude! That's an old people drink!" And when I was a kid I used to laugh at EVERYTHING, so they'd wait until i was drinking and then they'd make me spray it out my nose. =-) What's really funny, though, is it usually ended up spraying into their lunches. he he, and they still never learned their lesson.

Anyway, i don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but nestle has milkshake things in a bottle now. I got some 'cause they were on sale once (as in they were about to go bad, so they were two for a dollar =-) They had pretty decent calories, and they tasted all right. There's also those yogurt drinks... I've never had them, but I've heard good things.
