Josh had his ENT appointment today. The doc said his sinuses look good and the CT scan was unchanged (last time was good).

SO WHY is he having daily headaches, facial pressure, postnasal drip, nose bleeds, and a tickly cough?

He's been treated for "sinus infections" with five different ABX in the last four months- but none have worked on the symptoms.

We are so frustrated. We were convinced he was due for another sinus surgery. He just wants to feel better.

What else could it be?</end quote></div>

Allergies.

I had this for years before I treated my allergies with, among other things, an intranasal corticosteroid (that doesn't contain alcohol BTW...if you're using generic fluticasone that contains ALCOHOL that will cause nose bleeds), environmental allergy proofing, anti-histamines, HEPA air purifiers in my bedroom and room where I do meds, and a leukotriene agonst.

My sinuses always looked fine when I had daily headaches, horrendous drip in my throat, and facial pressure.

ALl of this is GONE.

I have the same problem. My ENT said that my sinuses are ok, not good, but not horrendous. Could some parts of his sinuses be more blocked than others? Did the ENT tell you if any of the specific areas were blocked?

When I met with my ENT last week (at the end of my IV course) he said that my sinuses looked blocked but not ALL of them. I was having horrible pressure/pain in my cheeks and above my eyes, post nasal drip and lingering cough as well. My ENT said that my frontal sinuses (above my eyes, i believe) and my maxillary sinuses (under the eyes) were mostly or partially blocked...BUT my ethmoid (i think...wayyyy back in the head) were completely clear.

Sorry he feels so rotten! If there is any consolation, he is not alone.

Thanks Amy. I have your allergy info saved.

Josh is on 180 mg allegra and flonase 2x day.(probably why he has nosebleeds). He does not do singular. We put in hardwood floors last summer. He has a HEPA air purifier in his room. He has a allergen-free pillow but does not have a special pillow case.

I called tonight to get him tested for allergies. Is there a specific thing I should ask for, or just the routine tests?

HEPA filter in the room he does meds in is important.

Also, get a dust mite cover for his matress, make sure his bed sheets are washed in HOT once a week (if not more often).

Finally, see if you can get him approved for Allegra D 12 hour or 24 hour. The only difference is it contains pseudoephedrine. If you can't get insurance to pay, just have him take some Sudafed (make sure it's pseudoephedrine, not the newer Sudafed kind) once or twice a day.

Singulair will be a good add on.

Make sure in the summer and spring you don't leave windows open EVER. Air conditioning only with HEPA filters running.

Shower before bed to make sure his hair/body isn't bringing in pollen to his bed.

Make sure the bathrooms and the rest of the house are rid of mold.

Ask for SKIN tests (not blood IgE). Make sure you go to an allergist, not just any old doctor. These tests need to be done right.

He has to stop all anti-histamines for a week as well as SSRI's if he's on any for 2-3 days. Not all allergists tell you this (don't know why) but it's important to do.

But make sure he's tested for mold, dogs, cats, trees, pollen, dust mite fecal matter, and cocroaches.

Take care
