Hello,

I have medicaid and no matter how hard my dr and I try they will not cover a Novolog Pen they say they are no diffrent then a syringe. I take 4 shots a day and no matter where I give my shot at I bruise very badly. I have contacted Novolog company and they say due to having Medicaid they can not help me. Does any one know of any place I can get help to get a pen so maybe I can cut down on the bruising? I do not take my shots right now because I do not have a place to give them due to my bruising.. Any help would be appreciated please.

Thank You

My endo gave me pen samples, but I only needed them temporarily due to insulin resistance from the steroids I was on. What gauge needles are you using? The go down to 30g, so maybe your doc could write you an Rx for smaller needles, if you are using larger ones (typically you find 25g on most syringes that come with needles attached)

Hello Jonathan,

I use BD 31 Gauge .3cc 5/16" syringes right now. My dr and I thought that the 31 gauge and 5/16" would help but they do not. Thank You for responding to me. At this time I do not see an Endocrinologist but starting in January I will be. The CF clinic has just now started working with an Endo that has training with CFRD.

Good,

Hopefully your Endo will have some samples that you can use. Another thing that I thought of, are you on steroids? That can make you bruise very easily. The other thought I had was trying to inject the insulin as slowly as possible.

Oh and another thing... Do you use the same needle to draw up the insulin that you use to inject? That can really dull a needle.

Hey Melissa,
I'm not sure that the novolog pen will make a difference. I am using the smallest needle with mine and I still have bruising....and I change my needle for every injection. But the novolog pen is definitely easier than using syringes. I wish I could give you some advice on how about getting it. The diabetes center where you have clinic maybe able to help...since they are used to working with all the insurance companies along with medicaid and medicare. Good luck to you!
