i too was having an ache the past few days. though i think it may have been a strained muscle. i am not too sure, but it is gone for now.

2 thoughts came to mind , these have been the causes of strange side ache for me:
1) inflammation of the pleural tissue (I think that's what it is called)that surrounds the lung outside, can be quite painful and is aggravated by breathing because of the mechanical movement pressing against it but as I remember was not really dangerous. I think the time I had it I only took an anti-inflammatory for a few days and it got better quite soon
2) a intestinal blockage, may not seem like the obvious culprit but can cause all sorts of referred pains so taking something to clean you out and then see how the pain does is perhaps an idea. Even if one is 'regular', with cf there can be a blockage.

I don't have CF, but there was some weird kind of bug going around here during the holidays. I started getting lower back pain, but it was more of an ache, not a sore muscle and I was thinking it might be a kidney issue.

This went on for a week and turned into a full blown back spasmy issue. But here's the weird part -- two of my coworkers got the same exact thing -- not in the same area, but a weird ache that turned into muscle spasms.

All I can figure is there was some sort of bug going around and because we were favoring that area of the body, other muscles started compensating and then spasms occured. Not sure if it's something similar, but I have never ever had anything like this before and then it just went away as mysteriously as it began.
