No he doesnt have a port. I asked about one so it would be easier for him to be a kid but they kind of brushed it off. I guess as of right now the PICC line drugs will only be like a couple weeks at home then oral, but we know how that can change in a second. I pulled several piccs out totally by accident, just trying to do what moms do... Once I got my port I could even excerise while infusing (the eclipse balls - made life sooo much easier) and pretty much anything else... Just my opinion, but i think a port lets you be "more free - more kid like" for example, you can swim.... like a big dummy I thought I would access it each time I needed a tx but While on ivs I'd change it once a week, sometimes more often like when on vacation to swimm or because I was dressed up (my port is on my chest). when it is not accesses all you see is a small scar and a little bump like a button. I access it myself, it is totally something you could do for him. They say ports can last 10+ years, I am on my second since my first got infected... this one has been in since 2-06 with no problem...
