Hello,

I am a soon to be 26 yr old w/CF, and my hubby and I are planning to start trying to conceived in 6 mos or so (I put the or so in for his benefit). I went to my OB/GYN earlier this week to get my annual exam and discuss my plans. This was my first time seeing this doctor, and I liked her. She is sending me for a preconceptual consult with a high risk OB/GYN. So, I guess my question in two-fold...in anyone here for NJ and has had a baby? If so, what OB did they use? Also, for the general audience, do you think it matters if the dr has experience with other CF patients? Oh and one more question, have most of you been followed by a high risk OB/GYN?

Thanks!!!

My OB has never had a CF patient so for his comfort I do tandem care with a high risk OB. I saw her every 6 weeks for an ultrasound (starting around 14 weeks or so but I could have started later). If I had any health complications then my CF team would be in touch with my peri and they would come up with a plan. But I don't want to be exclusively followed by a peri because they tend to be more into interventions and medical management of birth than I prefer.

I don't think it is necessary to be followed by a high risk OB. If you were to start developing complications you could always see one then.

I think delivering at a hospital that has a CF clinic is a good idea if possible. I saw a high risk ob/gyn but delivered at a hospital that doesn't deal with CF. When I was in labor the mucus in my nose dried up and completely blocked my passages. I was screaming hysterically and gasping by that time since my contractions were coming hard and fast with back labor. They didn't help me and it was pretty horrible. If I had been at a hospital with a CF doc on staff I think I would have been much better off. If I have another baby I will do things differently.

Hi!

My OB is the ob/gyn the CF clinic refers it's patients too. My ob has many other cf'ers, and is on the up and up of what we can and can not take. Plus she is BIG on genetic counseling. My ob happens to be high risk as well.

My CF team and my Ob have spoken and are aware of us starting a family. It makes me feel better, I like a team effort!

We will be starting in August, and we are going to Mexico for our extended honeymoon... so with any luck ( and alot of pre-seed, lol) we will come home with a souvenir.

Lots of Luck Mary
