I'm an occupational therapy student that is not familiar with CF. I'm seeking any information you may have to offer in regards to:

1. What assessment tools did the occupational therapist use during the evaluation?
2. Or, What did the occupational therapist assess?
3. What questions did the occupational therapist ask you during the evaluation?
4. What kinds of goals did you set with your occupational therapist?
5. Has your occupational therapist helped you develop any techniques or routines to better assist you during completion of daily activities?
6. Has your OT recommended the use of any devices to help you complete certain tasks/activities during your day?
7. And most importantly, How would you assess your experiences with the occupational therapist?

I appreciate any advice you have to offer and thank you in advance for helping me to better understand this diagnosis and your experiences with OT.
Have a wonderful day!

I am a COTA/L with CF and I have been practicing for 10+ years. I have never treated a patient with CF besides myself <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">... but an OT would look at the individuals strength, endurance, activity tolerance, and adl's, as well as activities, play leisure etc. All the standard OT stuff. I would also talk to the pt and see what they are having problems with, and what they would like help with. It really depends on the patient but if they had a lot of issues with breathing I would go over energy conservation techniques, and breathing techniques. I have been hospitalized in the past but have never been seen by an OT while in the hosp. PT usually came in and did their thing, as CF pt's benefit from exercise to keep the air flowing wel though their lungs, and to use for some airway clearence. Respiratory is the other group that comes to take care of chest pt and breathing tx's. Are you in school as an OT or a COTA? Also if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
