Odd question...

Hi!

Ok, so we're trying to do our part and have recently replaced all of our "regular" 60 Watt light bulbs in the house with flouresent lightbulbs! The light is a bit "different"... its almost a blue hue to it, instead of a yellow light from our "regular" bulbs. Well, I guess I'll get used to the new hue, and its worth it if we can help save the planet and help cut our electricity costs, however.... I've noticed under these lights my fingers look absolutely PURPLE/BLUE! Its crazy! I know they're usually a little more blue than other people's fingers, but the flouresent lights seem to really bring out the blue, and DH doesn't have this "look" to his fingernails....

So, just wondering if that is a CF thing? Do your fingernails look really blue under flouresent lights? I don't notice it on "healthy" people nails, and didn't seem to notice it prior to installing our new bulbs, so just thought I'd question what your experience is with this. I know, a silly question, but I guess I'm just curious if I'm "odd".... LOL....

(Oh, and no, my fingers are not cold, so its not that... lol)

I have had that to happen under flouresent light before. They look more blue than normal. My husband's fingernails...who is healthy...werent as noticable as mine. First time I saw it I quickly put "regular" light on them...just to make sure. Yes blue nails mean low oxygen and poor circulation but they should/would look blue/purple reguardless of the light they were under if that was the case.

Hmm... yes, they don't look nearly as blue/purple under normal lights... but, I just found it odd that the severity of the blue nails (under flouresent lighting) was much greater in my fingers than DH... I appreciate you sharing your experience with this too... I know its kinda a silly question, but thought I'd see if other CFers have blue fingers under flouresents too or if it was just me. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Amy,

OK, so if it IS poor circulation, what would be the cause? Would my hands/fingers feel cold? I was under the impression that poor cirulation often makes fingers and toes blue AND almost always feel cold to the touch (cause blood flow isn't getting to them to warm them). My hands are rarely cold, unless I'm back in North Dakota! lol
