OK to take nebulizer to work at accounting office?

Do you think it would be OK to take nebulizer to work at an accounting office and use it in the file storage room?
People come to the file storage room sporadically throughout the day to get files.
Does anyone else take a nebulizer to work for 15 minute treatments?

I have not taken it to work with me because I do meds every 12 hours and my work shifts are never that long. I have taken it with me to the courthouse when I was sequestered for jury duty. Two of the other 11 jurors didn't like it when I used the nebulizer in the hallway between the jury room and the jury's private washrooms, because I was nebulizing Tobi and a couple of them were made ill by the smell of the exhaust. I was moved by the sheriff to a different hallway between the courtroom and the judge's chambers to do my meds and all was fine. I'd suspect that if discuss it with your co-workers ahead of time there would not be a problem and you could be accomodated. Why not just get a cigarette plug adapter and go sit in your car to do the nebs? If you don't drive, you can get a portable battery pack from any hardware store (normally used for jumping dead car batteries) and plug your nebulizer into the battery pack. That way you can take your meds anywhere you can take the battery pack. I use my nebulizer while camping with a battery pack like this.

Thanks, the battery pack sounds like a good idea, we have a couple of fairly secluded patios, maybe it could be done there.

If albuterol is nebulized in a store room with a bunch of cardboard box files, will it leave any residue on the boxes and papers that an employer might get worried about?

I think it should be totally fine doing nebs at the office, I would however DEF. bring Lysol spray/ wipes with you and spray some of the stuff you'll be working on before starting a treatment- and spray the room before you do it, so you don't inhale a cold virus or weird bacteria from peoples hands touching the papers/ files!!!!

I've never had albuterol. Does it leave a sticky residue on your nebulizer? If it does, then it may leave a sticky residue on other objects, too.

Do you have a break room you could use? Sometimes that's a good place if you neb when it's not too crowded.

I know this is probably not the cleanest place to do a neb, but I used to go into the employee restroom to do my afternoon Cayston neb. I would just take a small lunch box bag to work filled with all of my neb pieces and Cayston and then just take it in the restroom with me. It was a private restroom with a sink and everything, so I would just lock the door and stand in there to do my treatment and then clean out my pieces afterwards. There were times that it was easier to just take a late lunch and go in my car and do the treatment too.

I agree with Bill. I know you probably don't want to make a "big deal" of it, but there is absolutely no reason why you cannot ask your employer for a private CLEAN room to do your treatments. They provide rooms for nursing mother's to pump and can do the same for you. You could have a clean space to keep the equipment, a sink for washing, etc. Under the ADA, employers (assuming you work for a larger company--doesn't apply for less than 15), must provide reasonable accommodations, but you have an obligation to ask and then work with them. HR is trained to know how to handle this and most companies will go above and beyond. That said, if you have a car, personally I'd prefer that route--we actually do that with ds rather than haul into in-laws house sometimes and have hassle of setting up with hovering gp, etc.

<span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #3366ff;">i'm a Telecommunicator at an E-911 Communications center and have always brought my things to work so that i can do albuterol treatments there. i am fortunate in that my employer and co-workers have absolutely been accommodating ... if we're not busy with emergency calls, my co-workers will even often tell me not to worry about catching the phone or radios until i'm done w/ the treatment.

I've had a very understanding employer and coworkers before when I've had to do this (I even did ivs at work!). I understand the poster who said TOBI bothered others, as it bothers me who does it. I would be open about and ask for a clean, comfortable place to do this. What meds do you want to do? Would it bother anyone to just do it at your desk??
