OK to use dehumidifier water in washing machine?

So I got sort of interested in the concept of dumping it in the washing machine and googled it myself. It seems like some people are doing it so they don't waste water - they are also watering houseplants and all sorts of things with the dehumidifier water. Trying to be super "green" I guess.I would think the problem for you with dumping it in the washing machine would be if the water is musty/moldy. Not saying your basement is a dirty, moldy area, but when I think of a basement with a dehumidifier I envision that's why you have the dehumidifier in the first place - to get rid of the mustiness? So I guess it would depend on how clean you think the water is and if it would have allergens, mold etc in it.

We empty the water every day, sometimes twice in the summer. We never let it sit around so it would grow mold. I know the bucket that hold the water is very clean, but my question was about the water itself. I couldn't find anything scientific when I googled either.

Do you use the water in the washing machine to wash your clothes then? If you do.. I would say no way.. to doing that.. The bucket can be as clean as a whistle ( though I don't know what makes whistles so clean).. The water has impurities in it and unless you are getting the water up to 140 degrees you are not killing germs..... why chance it?

If you are able to drain the water out of the washer machine and are not using the water with your wash cycle, I still wouldn't do it because I want everything to be sterile and we know how much mold and bacteria is in water but I would think it would be safer.. if you washed the washer out with bleach and water before you run the washer...

I will link you some articles..
