Okay, My Poop Question

Hi there,

My son for the last two months has had the worst bm's. In the morning after his Prevacid his morning poop is normal and formed. As the day progresses his evening poop turns greenish/liquidy. The clinic has had me try breaking his Prevacid pill and half, and spreading it out. That worked for a day, and then he would have a nasty gross bm twice a day. I asked if we give him more prevacid and they said no. So, we tried switching enzymes. Again saw improvement for a couple of days. I feel so bad for my little man. We need to start potty training, but there is no way with his bm's being so icky.

I have read many posts that some kids at five years and above take Prevacid twice a day. I'm wondering if this might be the trick for my son. Just would like a little info.

Thanks,

Sarah

P.S

Ohh, and his GI doc already had me take a sample of his nasty green liquidy poop in to the lab and it came back with nothing it. That would cause it.

Is it prescription dose? or OTC?

I only ask b/c I recently got some OTC samples from a GI health consult and the nurse told me that since its OTC if I needed I could take another one later in the day.

I dont remember what my prescription dose is, but I've looked all over the OTC box and have yet to find a dosage haha.

Anyways, just an idea?

Sometimes even w/ the prescription prevacid, I take a rolaids still.

With Prevacid it is done I believe by weight or maybe age.
My daughter at 16 (now 17) was maxed out on it. She was taking 60 in the am and 30 in the pm. She is small for her age. Last week her GI dr switched her to Nexium because the
Prevacid just wasn't helping anymore. Is your son on enzymes? Not sure if this is much help

I'm sure that the CF docs and dieticians out there would shoot me for this, but, have you ever tried giving him his enzyme AFTER he eats? For us, it just works better that way. It's almost like it takes Emily's body so long to get the food where it needs to be that by the time it gets there the enzyme given at teh start of the meal is gone. WHen the enzyme follows the meal, the poop looks normal.

This is risky, I know, so maybe talk it over with the doc. It's just what works for us! (now that I've posted this I['ll be on pins and needles to see if Emily gets a bowel obstruction or something...just to spite me! LOL)
