Onions

I have CF and asthma, and fried onions are absolute murder to me. On the same level as a room full of cigarette smoke (I haven't been in such a room in like 10 years though). But I was at my friend's house a week ago and his mom was frying up a panful of onions, the whole house was filled with the smell of that cursed plant. My eyes started tearing like no tomorrow, I couldn't really see, and I started getting asthma reactions to the specific smoke onions give off.

All my friends were fine, so maybe I'm allergic to onions or something, I never eat them, they taste horrible.

Hmm...I've never had that type of reaction before, but onions do give me severe heartburn! Even when I take my meds, I still get wicked heartburn and pain in my chest from them.

I love onions. I'm always using onions when I cook; don't know what I'd do without them (lol). They have never given me any problems (hope they never do).

When my husband smokes jalepenos it does the same thing to me. Chest feels tight and I cough uncontrollably. We have to open all the windows in the house to air it out. Weird!

I am sorry you had to go through that. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Next time when someone is cooking tell them about your food allergy.

I eat raw onions on occasion and only sauteed onions if I am at a restaurant.

Its weird how our bodies react to things especially out of the blue. I hope you keep this in your memory bank & maybe you will luck out & it was a fluke. I love onions & couldnt imagine not being able to cook with them!
