I go to the doc every 3 months but if they put me on antibiotics then i usually have a follow-up within two weeks or so. Routinely, I get the following done before the doctor meets with me to discuss my health:
1. PFTs
2. V/S
3. Sputum culture (sent to the lab)

During my annual visit I get the following done:
1. Chest x-ray
2. Nutritionist
3. Social worker

Honestly, I think I would die if I didn't see my doc as often as I do. Your health may be good now but like someone else said, prevention is key. CF is nothing to take lightly and staying in good health for as long as possible is the goal. You have to do your research to get a doctor that will treat you and CF. Hope everyone has given you good insight!

Thank you all so much for your opinions and advice. I am going to look for an accredited cf center...I live between Baltimore and Phila. so I'm sure I'll find one, even if I have to travel. I'm ready to stop "playing" with my health and shop!!! Thanks again, any other advice is very welcome!

Luci, we may be stationed around Baltimore in the future and someone mentioned that John Hopkins is there and is amazing for CFers! Just thought I'd mention that!

Johns Hopkins is great. I've only been recently DX but will be up there tomorrow for my 3rd visit (planned, not because of illness) in about 5 months time. They are very thorough. Infact they're the ones who finally DX me with CF (Ambry test). They're still in the poke and prod me mode... trying to figure out exactly what kind of extent I have with my CF. But I've been very impressed. And they're so nice and accessible even inbetween appointments. And you can't beat the nursing staff to get things done - like prescription refills with CFFPharmacy and compressor orders etc... I can't say enough nice things about the docs at JH. The parking garage sucks though. ~Juliet

Ugh. Yes.
He's your doctor, not your social worker. I'm sure he's just trying to be supportive, but that is scary...what if you get sicker...should you 'embrace it'?

Personally, I go quarter annually w/ PFTs every appt, and have blood work, CT, and x-rays yearly.

I've been seeing my doctor for 18 years now! He is wonderful because he actually cares about me not only as a patient, but a person. I largely attribute my good health to his concern over the years.
