opsite flexigrid

hey all!

So I've posted about my INCREDIBLE adhesive allergy many times before. I've gotten many suggestions that all worked for only a short amount of time before I ended up breaking out in a nasty rash again.

I know a couple of you have tried the opsite flexigrid here. Those that have, are you super allergic to all other adhesive or just tegaderm? Just thinking about something sticking to my skin makes me break out in an awful rash. I'm now currently itching through hypafix tape, which about a month ago gave me no trouble at all and had me thinking it was my saving grace. Not so much anymore...

I've tried IV 3000, which like everything else I've tried, worked for a while before it started getting pretty itchy. Is Opsite Flexigrid the same stuff? I one time asked the pharmacy specifically for "Opsite" and they sent me IV 3000. Are they really THAT different from each other if they aren't the same thing? I'm just wondering if this stuff will having me itching like crazy after a months worth of use like everything else? It seems pretty pricey online and am afraid to pay an arm and a leg just to get hives and blisters all over again.

Any experiences with it would be MUCH appreciated!

i'm not sure if they are the same thing or not <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> sorry i know that's not helpful but i was wondering if there is any kind of skin prep stuff you can use on your skin before you but the dressing on? just something to add a little bit of a barrier between your skin and the adhesive directly....
i'm sorry you have such a tough time with the adhesive...i can't do tegaderm but opsite has worked pretty wel for me...

I've had the same luck with skin barriers as I have had with adhesives. I try one and it works really well for about a month or so...and then it stops working despite how much of it I use and I itch right through it. Again, I thought for the longest time that Bard Protective Barrier Wipes were my saving grace from adhesive. It doesn't do anything for me anymore.

Grr...life would be so much easier if it wasn't so itchy! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

i have the same problem currently we are putting aquaphor for dry skin to help minimize the itch and where the adhesive gets too.

No, it's not the same thing. IV3000 is made by Smith Nephew, the same co. and I think the package says Opsite but it is not specfically the same exact thing, although the nurses will tell you it is the same. What exactly the difference is, I don't know, but IV3000 would make Anna' itch too.

i use opsite all the time. i really like it.

the thing about opsite is that it breathes better and is gentler on the skin. i have mild allergies, but can still handle tegaderm if forced - i just really prefer opsite. my skin isn't all red and angry when they peel it off, and it's easier for me to change the dressing on my port without changing the needle if i need to (say if something gets wet or whatever). i also just think it protects better.

my only complaint, which is silly, is that the dressing has orange strips on the sides. i just find this unnecessary and somewhat annoying.

I hate those orange stripes too! Sometimes the edge of my dressing can be seen when my port is in use. When it's clear it's not noticeable, but the orange stripe sticking out of my top is another thing all together.

Not such a big deal in the whole scheme of things, but it does seem like an unnecessary annoyance.
