I haven't tried the nystatin swish and swallow-I will ask my doctor if I can keep some of that on hand. I will start Mycelex tonight (I am scared about starting new meds when my husband isn't home-I have had 2 bad allergic reactions and they scared me!)....hopefully that will help. I do have to take those 5 times a day though-which is a lot! At my next clinic about the Nystatin....I think I might look into taking it as a preventative measure like you do Leah.....since I have had it so many times lately!
I do make sure I wash my mouth out with water every time I take my advair...and I have been on advair for about 5 years and didnt' start getting the thrush until just this past September. I think it was everything I was on then, combined with the fact that I was sick (immune system down) that made me get the thrush-and now it is not totally going away!
I am going to try eating less sugar-but that is hard!

Ugh, yes I'm getting over a current battle too. Its gross, but I also take 1/4 cup of vinegar mixed with 1/4 cup of warm water and swish that in my mouth then spit, about 2-3 times a day. I really helps. Also, lowering sugar and dairy intake when possible, eating yogurt every day plus the probiotics. Seems like you're doing everything you can. Give the vinegar a try, its not going to hurt. Just hold your nose!

I'm one of those oddballs who actually likes Nystatin......anyway, I've had the thrush battle over the years and one thing that works well for me is Biotene mouthwash. (I still use Nystatin when I'm on IVs) Regular mouthwash kills when you have thrush, but Biotene doesn't sting. My mom gets thrush too and it helps her.
Also, if you take Advair, gargle well with water after you take your puffer.

Interesting about the vinegar-I will try that! I don't want to speak too soon...but I have been really taking a lot of acidophilous and drinking a lot of Kefir-and it seems to be better without having to go on meds for it! I am really hoping this works! Also-I was talking to our local health food store and they told me about these: http://www.iherb.com/Garden-of-Life-RAW-Probiotics-Women-90-Veggie-Caps/27367?utm_source=shc&utm_medium=c They have 85 billion live cultures! Has anyone tried these? The ones I take now have 5 billion each.

That raw probiotic sounds AWESOME!!!! The 5 billion of probiotics really will not do much, expecially with a CF gut. My 7 year old is on 15 billion, if that gives you an idea of how much would be good to be on....

blessings,
missa

According to this source Home Remedies for Oral Thrush , salt can help treating oral thrush.

Salt is considered one of the top home remedies for oral thrush as it helps destroying the habitat of the fungus[4][5]. Also, in case of infection, salt can reduce the symptoms and be a quick cure.

How to apply:

-Dilute ½ to 1 teaspoon of salt with 1 cup of warm water. Gargle using this water and repeat until the symptoms are reduced and you feel comfortable.
-Use your fingers to gently apply some salt on your tongue and rub it for a few seconds. Then rinse your mouth using warm water. Repeat it twice every day for a couple of days.
