Hello, My name is Joanne and I had this problem today. I had abdominal pain and went to the washroom like 10 times today. Every time i went I had this orange oil in the bowl. Now that's all i'm passing. I do have chronic pancreatitis and do not take enzymes at this time. For the most part i'm pancreatic sufficient. I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. I do have upper abdo pain almost every day, it's not bad but it's there. I do also get this wet type feeling in my upper abdo when i eat or drink anything (other than water)
If you have any insight please PLEASE help me
thanks

hey there!

OK, well, my honest opinion...orange oil when you poop accompanied with abdominal pain? That suggests that you should talk to your cf doctor about pancreatic enzymes. When I forget to take my enzymes or don't take enough, orange oil is the first thing on the list that happens...and I've been pancreatic insufficient since day 1. I don't mean to throw a major curve ball at you since you mentioned that you're pretty pancreatic sufficient, but, it can happen. It's probably time to discuss enzymes with your CF doc. A rather low dose will probably solve the problem since you mentioned that you're relatively sufficient. Again, talk to your cf doc b/c it sounds to me like enzymes are the answer. Good luck...keep us posted!

Hi Joanne,
It is possible that you have become pancreatic insufficient. The orange stuff sounds like grease/fat. Have you recently, like within the last year, had a fecal fat test done? Have you ever checked out your belly to feel for stool? I think you need to get your belly checked out, as you know, an x-ray will tell if you've got stool in there.

Okay...I'm not crazy...but do you eat products with Olestra or Olean? Doubtful that your current issue isn't CF-related...but Olestra can do the same thing (orange oil, cramping) - though it would be the last thing you'd want to consume because it prevents fat absorption as well as fat soluble vitamins. Just thought I'd reply with a left-fielder! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
