Orange sputum?

I have read MOST of the ever-so-pleasing forums on sputum and can't find anything about this one.

2 weeks ago started feeling bad - Doc started: 30mg pred x 2 day; cipro x 2 day; xoponex every 4 hours; pulmozyme 2 x day. I also take all the regular stuff like singulair, advair, etc etc.

So tons of energy - lots getting done - feeling better. For 2 days now using the acapella at night before bed consistently to clear up - now it seems that an occasional "cough up" is orange. blended - not streaky. about twice per day. Just curious what the hell it might be? Doc and his crew are awesome - but didn't think to call them until late afternoon friday - guess I missed them

Anyone?

Have a company picnic today with my daughter and her family - wanted an idea of what this is.

Thanks guys!!

I've never had that happen - so I'm not sure. Doesn't feel like my stomach is involved. But thanks for the response and at least a possible explanation. Much appreciated. Adding it to my notes for the team on Monday.

And I WILL report back what they have to say - just for the added information.

I once had orangish brown sputum when I had a bad case of aspergillosis pneumonia, a fungal infection. My docs missed the diagnosis and put me on IV antibiotics. It took weeks if not months for my body to beat it down. I think you can get a blood test for this bug now.
I would advise you to get a sputum culture done as soon as possible. I had Aspergillus Fumigatus, which antibiotics will not touch & require an antifungual. It will not get better on its own. Usually red or orange means there is probably some bleeding somewhere, which can come from the infection damaging the lung tissue. I dont know anything about a blood test to see if you are growing that but I think the blood test is to see if you have Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA).
