Supposedly some people take the HTS first becasue you can cough out a lot of the Pulmozyme if you do it the other ways around. I actually take Pulmozyme first because of the time issue as well as the fact that I feel it works better. My doctor said it really has no basis doing it either way- so I should just do what makes me do it the most or what I feel is most effective. I cough out a lot of mucus if I do the Pulmozyme first (I wait a while in between if possible so it can get working). I feel that I clear out more, and my FEV1 has gone up so it works for me, but maybe not for people who are more time constrained or cough up alot of mucus.

Hmmmm, yeah my doctor says hypertonic before pulmo.
My order right now is:
Albuterol
Hypertonic
Pulmozyme
Symbicort.
What's weird is that when im a patient in the hospital, different RT's do it in different orders, so I just pretty much follow what my doctor says.

We do both Hypersal and pulmozyme. You are right; they do different things. Hypersal liquifies the mucous to make things easier to cough up and out. Pulmozyme, is an enzyme that breaks down longs strands of white cells left over from infections. My daughter does Hypersal first then pulmozyme. The way I think of it the Hypersal makes them cough out the ,mucous first; then pulmozyme can get in there and eat up the leftovers.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> When my daughter first started the Hypersal our Cf doc said she had to do 7% Hypersal 2 x day. It has been worth the time put it in. She gained weight a few weeks after starting; and knock wood has not been hospitalized since she started it. I feel the Hypersal has made all the difference in my daughter's well being.
