For those of you who use oils and other natural remadies, how do your doctors feel about you using them?

My dr's thought that it was good that I was taking control of my disease for the most part. They only wanted to know exactley what I was on and how much I took. And they also wanted to make sure I didn't stop taking my other meds (which I didn't )

You should be thankful that you have atleast open minded docs. Many docs will tell you to only do/take what they say, and don't deviate from that. Most doctors on top of that are totally clueless when it comes to natural substances and their medicinal applications. If you happen to find a CF doc who is both supportive and encouragingly knowlegable about such things, keep him at all costs.

yeah, my drs are of the mindset that they can only take us so far when it comes to our health, the rest is up to us. That's why I travel 5 hrs to ATL to get to them. I'm lucky!

I wonder if it's the same CF center or not, but when my friend was alive we went to a real cool cf care place there and they were real cool. No idea what the name was because it was a while ago, and I was more interested in going to buckhead.

I talked to my doc about the oil of oregano. He said that he hasn't heard anything about it in clinic for the past two years. That being said, he said that if I wanted to try it, to go ahead. He said it doesn't hurt to try, as it shouldn't give me any negative side effects.

The CF center up there is about 10 years old. It's in it's on seperate building from Emory (the main hospital) , so it's only cfer's in and out of there and that's their only focus. It's in downtown ATL, Buckhead is a little further north.

What is your question? Be a tad more specific.

There are TONS of substances out there that people take that aren't "FDA approved" that don't harm people, and then there are other substances out there that do harm people. Look into it yourself, do your own research, and come to your own conclusion. At a certain point in adult CF you have to be your own advocate and be proactive, and realize your doctors are only there to help, and not there to lead the way.
