Just wanted to know how those of you that have tried SD's oregano oil idea haave worked out. Are you still doing it as part of your routine, and if so have you noticed an improvement? If not, why? Thanks.

Hi Terri,

I tried OO a few months ago for about 2 months. I feel I can swear by it in regards to sore throats. Pop a few drops on your tongue if you feel a sore throat coming on, morning and night, and whala...it's gone.

As for improving my overall breathing/health/lung function, that wasn't the case for me. I tried it via drops under the tongue for those 2 months, but I had several things going on with me infection wise. I was starting feeling a tightness in my chest and nothing was improving my breathing so I stopped. I was suscpicious of it making my lungs worse, so I stopped. Note: I never inhaled it, just did drops.

I'd like to always have some on hand in case I get a sore throat again. That's my experience with it.

I have been interested and skeptical about oregano oil also. I think trying it in an adult is different than trying it on a child. An experienced adult can more easily tell how it is effecting their body, to know whether it is beneficial or not.

Anyway, I got my SIL to be my real life genie pig! She has always struggled with sinus issues. She has had at least one surgery, and needs antibiotics for sinus issues 3 to 4 times a year. I told her about oo because Sean also mentioned that his sister used oo because she had sinus problems. My SIL started using it about 6 months ago. She can tell when something is coming on because her sinus problems always started with a sore throat, and then would continue to progress from there. As soon as she feels something coming on, she starts taking drops under the tongue (I think she does this for about 3 days). She has not had a sinus infection since she started the drops.

Since Sarah does have sinus problems, we did get some oo gel caps to try. We are not going to give them to her daily. We will just use them when we feel something may be coming on, like my SIL did (and like Kelly does too).

I hope this helped. I definatley think oo can be beneficial to some people. It's just difficult to decide the best way to use it, especially when a child is involved.

I had also found out the oregano oil (Oreganum Volgare) has the ability to cure sinus infections.
However, throwing caution in the wind....I would not recommend using oregano oil for a prolonged period, it may have a side effect, which would to cause issues with the liver function.
Whenever the sinuses flare up, using it till they are ok, sounds like a good practice.
For a child, I'd personally suggest diluting it with olive oil, since the oregano oil is already being diluted with parts of olive oil.
As for inhalation...perhaps that is something not to be done for a long time, either. If so, putting it in a cloth or something to inhale the vapors, which I found was suggested by an oo home page, sounds worth trying...just don't have skin contact, the oo may cause irritation or burning to the skin.

Do all of you who suffer sinus infections do sinus rinses? They work great for me. Ask your ENT about the process. I get my pharmacist to order a case of large bottles of sterile saline, so I don't have to mess with mixing the recipe myself.

where do you buy this: oregano oil (Oreganum Volgare)? grocery store?

I have used rinses for years. They have not helped me in terms of sickness. I have something no doctor can figure out. I have no allergies but I get a very itchy head (inside) followed by sinus infection> sore throat> bronchial inflammation>bronchitis. No one knows why it starts.
