i can't remember this being discussed with me by my parents, but i do remember them agreeing with me when i put myself down as a donor when i got my driver's license.

they were always donors that i remember. maybe that's where i got the idea from. maybe my mom can chime in and help me remember <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

when i was in the hospital at age 15, back in 1996, i'm not sure if hospitals asked about that type of stuff. I'm sure glad that they do now.

I don't know that it was ever discussed with me - and I haven't discussed it with my seven year old - though, God forbid anything happen, he would be a donor, as would I. The thing is, with an uncle who is post tx and a sister who died but was a donor, it is a given in our family that we will be donors, and I expect my kids will realize that through the discussions they hear around us. If not, when the time is right I will most defnintely discuss it with them.

I think a lot of people don't realize all that you can donate (and why they might think it's weird that a Cfer would be a donor) - when my sister died, they took skin and her corneas - not what you would imagine as typical organ donation.

My step-mom is now big into donation stuff and when she speaks at donation functions she uses a picture of my sister - a donor, and me, a potential (and perhaps probable) someday-recipient.

my parents haven't ever discussed it with me, not quite the "dinner time discussion" but my attitude toward it is "i'm not using them anymore, if someone else can they can have them" obviously they won't be using my lungs but they can still use other things. You would think that with as many people that die every day in car accidents and things like that there would be a surplus of these things but sadly most people want to keep the things they will never use again and will jsut sit in a hole. Lets get the word out, sign up to be a donor!
