Our first hospitalization

I'm so sorry to hear about your little girl. I remember our daughter's first hospitalization (she's 25 now) and it was as hard as you're saying. Keep focusing on how great it will be when it's over. On the practical side, I think (if your're not already doing it) it's crucial for you or another trusted friend or family member be with her every minute. The hospitals do their best but so many small things come up and I remember thinking how devastated I would have been if I hadn't been there to handle it (and of course, Amy would have been also). I know it's really hard but regrets are just as painful as the hospitalizaiton itself.

Which hospital?? Do they have a child life program?? Our child life specialists are so good to my son..When he gets special procedures that hurt, they come in afterwards with a treasure chest for him to pick a special prize...Or they distract him with puppets or bubbles...They also babysit so Mom and Dad can get out for a breather....I wonder why they couldn't sedate your child.. My son has had all his picc lines put in with a sedative...

Thanks so much for asking, Terri!! <br>

We are doing well, the IVs have made a huge difference. Alyssa is much happier and seems more energetic to me. She's eating like she never ever ate before. Scheduling all the IVs is exhausting though -- getting up in the middle of the night to do them is getting OLD!! But we're getting by and doing what we have to, I prefer this to all that time in the hospital any day!!

So glad to hear that you are home. Josh had a nurse come over twice a day to give him an antibiotic shot when he was just over a year old and that was a big hassle, so I HEAR you.
