Our First Vest

<UL>Hi Everyone. Well the day finally came when John was just big enough to fit into a vest. We got in in the mail yesterday. Yea!! We got the RespirTech incourage system. The thing cost more than our car, but the nice carrying case more than makes up for it. <img src=""> </UL>
<UL>I was hoping that any parents out there can give us a couple of tips. We are dreading putting John in there due to him acting like he is in the terrible two's already. Is there anything that has helped any of you when putting a child in the vest. Also we want to know how long you put you kid in it ect...</UL>
<UL>Well I won't put out too much more. The last post I did looked like a Christmas letter on steroids. </UL>

We're pretty new with the Vest ourselves, but it was smooth sailing for us, and hopefully it will be for you guys too. We talked it up quite a bit before it came, then once it did come, before we ever turned it on, I would "let" Ellie wear it around while she was playing for bits of time.

I thought it I could make it a special, fun thing right away, it wouldn't be a problem, but if it started out badly, it would become a battle every time. My biggest concern there was Ellie picking up on negative cues from her big sister, who gets nervous around loud noises, so I had a neighbor ready to get her if she seemed afraid at all. I put Ellie's favorite show on TV (Diego ... UGH!), put her on my lap, and she was fine from the get-go. I think I ran it about five minutes the first couple of times, then ramped it up over the next few days.

I've found I'm able to get Ellie to sit through pretty much anything if the TV is on, so we save television for CF therapies only. It's my ace in the hole ... guaranteed trance-like state during which I can do manual CPT, the Vest, nebs, you name it! If John has a favorite toy/show/activity, you might consider keeping it exclusive for CF related unpleasantness. There's a medium amount of that for us now, and I'm expecting more to come later, so it's good if you can find something that they love SO MUCH that they are compliant in order to get to it.
