Hey everyone,

Its been a great 2 weeks and I needed share it along with some crap that I had to deal with tonight.

We just attended our very first Great Strides walk as "Holm Heroes" and we were able to raise $6000 in about a month and a half!! HOW COOL WAS THAT!! We had a ton of help and a great support system. We took about 55 people with us and it turned out that we had the most..Apparently there were 33 teams that signed up for this walk and only 3 showed up. So there was us, (55) and 2 teams of 2. Man did we make an impact!! The foundation and our family are planning a walk for our home town next June. I have already begun the preperation. I am so excited about it.

One of our fundraisers we did was a pancake supper held at our local snowmobile club. They donated the building because of the fundraiser type. It wasnt for personal gain. We raised $1500 just for serving pancakes and sausage for 3 hours. Not a whole lot of work either. Easeier then most thats for sure. Anyway, I approached the club members again about doing a chili dinner there for the deer hunters on the eve of opening day. This is where it will get interesting. I called the secretary of the club this morning and asked her if the club was available for the date that we needed. I then began telling her our plans for future fundraisers. We want to try and do 1 a month and see how it works out. I told her that we have so many places to do them that we would be silly not to. ( I have been approached by other clubs such as the American Legion, The Eagles club places like that, and they want to do fundraisers for us.) So I get to the club tonight and the president had brought it to everyones attention that "someone" called and emergency meeting about having fundraisers for outsiders and this person was concerned about the club.
At that point my blood was starting to boil because we left in awesome condition when we left the building. This "someone" was the same lady, the day of our fundraiser, that told us that we werent rolling silverware like they do...Anyway, I only spoke to one person today and it was the secretary and I told her our plans. All I wanted was the snowmobile club for one more event this year. She turned around and told everyone that I wanted to use the facility every month...THEN!!!!! she turned and looked at me tonight and asked me, "why do you find it nessasary to raise money for the foundation? What in it for YOU!!!!????? OH MY LORD I ALMOST LOST IT..... Why am I raising money???? I looked her dead in the face and told her without the foundation my kids dont have a chance, without the foundation we dont have our doctors, the care that my kids receive and the research in finding a cure!! What other reason do I need???? I was livid! How can anyone ask a mother of 8, 4 of which were diagnosed, why we do what we do??? I simply stood up and addressed the whole group and told them as plainly as I could, WE ARE NOT DOING THIS FOR PERSONAL GAIN!!! If someone wants to make a donation to our family then we will except it but when the donation is for the foundation, where do you think it goes??? Any event we do is for the foundation, no questions asked.

Anyway, I think we will be finding a new location for our chili dinner and things will be better tomorrow. I never wanted pity from anyone, we need help. We need our community to come together and lend us there hall for the a couple of hours. Let us use a field or whatever. We wont stop...no matter what.

Dylan see's the ped surgeon on Friday. We will then make the appointment for his feeding tube. I am not looking forward to that at all and neither is he.....

Thanks for listening to my venting....

LOL...trust me, It took everything I had not to pound her face in!! I have learned through this proccess already that there will be people out there that may not agree with what we are doing and that doesnt matter. We know that what we are doing is the right thing. Its almost like that nagging thing in the pit of your stomach that is telling me we need to do more. All CF patients deserve it. We are not only doing this for our children but other alike. I hate this disease and what its doing to our family but we have to find a way to push through and Fundraisers are fun for all. My children have a blast.

I have to tell you guys about my goofy boys. My oldest who is 20 and his best friend ( who might as well be mine also) took the sleeves from the t-shirt my 16 son cut off and made mask out of them. They cut our eyes and pulled there hair through and had me write on the back of their head "Team CF". When we got to the walk they jump out of our van with that super hero stance and just had fun with it. Crazy kids. They had the whole place laughing. Those boys kept running around and saying "we are here to fight CF". You will just have to imagine that super hero voice and the the way they were running around...again, Crazy kids!!

The selfish insensitivies of some people is absolutely incredible. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with people like this in your community.

Good luck at the surgeon's on Friday. We go next monday and we are equally less than thrilled.
