Out of H. Saline

BTW I don't buy into the argument that it is impossible to prepare a fairly sterile mixture yourself, and need to pay someone up to 90 bucks to make you what is essentially sterile salt water. Many of us use distilled, or distilled + boiled again water to neb our GSH, and we are fine. It wouldn't be hard to sterilize the particular salt needed to dissolve within the carrier fluid either. Microwaving or a strong UV light comes to mind. I just want to know what type of salt that is recommended, so i can buy it myself, and possible double distilled water, and make the stuff myself.

I would never attempt to make my own saline. I cant add another project into my mixture, but for those of you willing to try it & get it right. Go for it. I am willing to pay for the convenience like I do many things in life!

Well that is fine for you. But me personally, I know that the process to make something so basic isn't that thard. After a certain point, it is all profit for those involved in the provcess. I'm not trying to make pulmozyme, or collistin for myself. I'm a very smart perspon, and just as a layman, I have studied chemistry and economics. I 100% understand how to make salt and water sterile, via ultraviolet light, and powered microwaves...I'm not about to cry and whine to my docs or general insurance to help me out, I just want to know the ratio on how to complete the process. Never doubt human beings who want to make things so, they will do what they need to do, and help themselves and others.

I'm not asking for help...I will eventually find out how to do it myself, and I will in turn tell others how to do it. Don't be shackled by what others tell you, learn general science, and learn very basic biochemistry...Stuff works, learn how to make it work for you, and not 90 bucks to some guy and a corporation.

Sterilze your salt, learn how to sterilizse your water, and make it work...I will be making my own HS very soon...If others are scared, who cares, I take care of myself, and show others how to do the same.

It 's not a question of being scared to make my own HS. It's a question of knowing my limits and leaving important things to the experts. Getting another lung infection (if can be avoided) is not something I am willing to risk for any price. I hope though, with that being said, that you SeanDavis succeed with your endevor over wanting to produce your own and that it turns out well for you.

My 10 yr old was just diagnosed in Nov 2005. We've been put on the HS. I mix it up using 10% saline, 6 cc's of sterile water. I pull out 5cc's using a syringe. Store the reminder, which we use about two more times. My question: It looks like I can get a pre-mix 7% solution. Is that correct. That would be so nice for when we travel or I have to take it to school. It seems to be helping, but mixing it up can be a real pain. Our doctor is not aware of a pre-mixed solution and wanted me to verify it.

Also, what is a compound pharmacy I've been reading. We go through a mail-order pharmacy through our insurance and thank the Lord, we have had pretty good luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was just put on HS. I get a box of 50 15ml 10% saline and a box of 50 15ml 3% saline. I was told to use a new surenge every time to measure it and that i had to throw the remainding saline away. I pay $60 dollars a month for this stuff and I am broke. If I could use all the saline and throw none away i would save hundreds of dollars. Does anyone know how safe that would be? Why cant the saline that is left in the viles be refrigerated and reused? does anyone know?

meleah,

Here in canada we just draw 5% saline from the premixed iv bag. It costs me 4 dollars for a big bag (if anyone wants to look into it in the states). I get needles from my doc and they put an attachment on at the local pharmacy that allows you to draw it and reclose it after.

I keep them in the fridge, and they say i can use each bag for about a week. I sometimes use it up to two. Because i neb the HS with OO, I'm not too worried about bugs or anything like that.

I'm sure if you keep it in the fridge for a week it should be ok. Or better yet, add a drop of OO to it, let it sit for a few mins, and go for it. Should help sterilize it and keep your mouth feeling nice and zesty

Meleah I am on the 3% solution that comes in the 15 ml vials like you get. I use the needles to draw it out also and was told to use it once and throw the rest away. What a waste! What I do is in the morning I draw my first dose and squirt it into the neb making sure I don't touch anything to the needle. Then I draw up my second dose with the same needle out of the same vial and cap the needle and put it in a safe place until the night dose. The needle is sterile and capped it wont get dirty. I have been doing this for two months now and if it weren't for my back supply I wouldn't have any left right now. I'll be out next week if the pharmacy is still out.

This is the link to Foundation Care: www.Foundcare.com

When I called this morning to see about having them make the 7% HS, 2 doses a day, they said it would cost $36 and that includes free shipping. Give them a call 877-291-1122.
