Paige Update

I posted this in my blog, but I'm starting to dislike the way our blogs work, because no one really saw it, and everyone's been asking about our Clinic Visit! SOOO....I'll post it here

Hey Everyone! Sorry to wait so long after our appt. to update everyone, but things have been in a state of chaos around here, all week!

As you all know we had appts with BOTH of Paige's Dr's on Monday. We saw the Ped. in the morning and Dr. Black that afternoon. Things with Dr. C went pretty normal, it was just a regular 2 Month Well Baby Check-Up. We did decide to hold off on her immunizations though, until the next day, so she wouldn't be cranky and sore for the trip to Kansas City.

Things at Clinic went great as well! I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the care and attention we received this time. I guess we just caught the clinic on a busy day last time; that, and Robin had said that Dr. Black had stepped out for a meeting.

Anyways, Paige's weight is 11lbs 5oz. and her height is 22 & 3/4 in. The team was so excited, because that is RIGHT where they want her to be. So, it means that we have her feedings; and enzymes perfected!

Next, we saw the NP & Dr. Black and ran through the normal questions, and then I got the chance to ask mine. I asked them about the care I received last time, and about their Stats according to the CFF website, and they both got pretty excited. I figured it would create an uncomfortable atmosphere, but it didn't! They welcomed it, and we all went over everything, and I'm pleased to say that I'm going to stick with my center. They don't have a caregiver/patient panel, but hopefully that will change in the future.

I also asked about starting Paige's CPT's and Nebs and told them that I want to be proactive about this, and she totally agreed; and they ordered me a Neb machine and had the RT come in to show me the CPT's. I'm so excited that they agreed with me, and are willing to follow the same path with me.

We also discussed RSV injections. The Ped. thinks we should consider them; but Dr. B says he's neutral on the subject. He says if we want them, then they'll be ordered, but she doesn't HAVE to have them. He told me to come home and research them, and then make my decision. SO, what is the opinion on RSV injections on this Forum? Should we get them, or Not?

Also, they did forget to schedule Matt's sweat test, AGAIN! So they scheduled it while I was there this time, and managed to get a time to do it on the date of our next clinic...which is 09/17/09.

Anyways, I'm just happy to report that Paige is doing great! We haven't started CPT's yet, I'm waiting on the Nebulizer to get here, but I'm pretty positive, and I really think this will help us get into more of a routine!

*UPDATE! 8/24- As I posted in a related discussion, we got Paige's Nebulizer Friday! We also got a call from the Clinic, and Paige is culturing Staph again . We're also fighting the Thrush STILL! All this, and one VERY bad diaper rash on top of it. My poor little girl *

As far as RSV (Synagis shots), we did have DS get them. We had a really nasty flu and RSV season in our area the year he was born and I knew of a couple people whose healthy children got RSV and it scared the heck out of me.

Glad to hear you're starting CPT and nebs. They actually relaxed ds and he would fall asleep during treatments. He still falls asleep during or sleeps thru them from time to time, unlike his vest.

She is so precious! I hope she gets rid of that nasty staph. My infant cultured that in the hospital also and has also had the thrush a couple times. Sounds so familiar! Glad to hear she is gaining weight good though! That was our biggest challenge with our 4 year old...our infant seems to be thriving much more than our first, so we are hoping the weight is not an issue as much this time around! Yet wish her lungs were doing just as well.
Good luck to you all and keep us posted!

just a tip for doing cpts. I use to always practice on myself on my chest or even the top of my leg as i was driving down the road or sitting around. lol Im sure people saw me on the road and thought i was crazy, i used my had instead of the bopper most of the time and practicing really did help. i was pretty good at it if i do say so myself. of course when she turned two we switched to the vest. but it's always good to keep in practice doing the manual cpt. there have been times when ash was sick i would do certain places that way after her vest, it seemed to make a big difference.
