for those who many not know what Pamidronate is, it's an infusion given every 3 months for osteo to help strengthen the bones...

Just curious to know what experience anyone has had with it....

My first infusion 3 months ago was pretty traumatic, with servere bone pain...

They said the 2nd time I had it it wouldnt be as bad

WRONG

Had my infusion on monday, Monday night the pain started

4am started vomiting non stop

Spent all day in bed yesterday through pain and voming, the pain is so bad you cant even stand up or move....

Almost got someone to take me to hospital because I couldnt get my anti rejection pills down...

Still in pain as I type, can't sit up for long, but I just wanted to get this question out there...

If any one has any tips that they have used to lesson the pain, or reduce the vomiting, could you please let me know.... I do have Ondansetron for nausea and that didn't help at all.... and it's suppose to be the best...

please chime in with any help, god knows the 3rd infusions gunna be even worse<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

You need to talk to your doctor about alternatives. They tried to give Jeremy that in the hospital - WITHOUT warning us about it's lovely side effects. We sent it back - no way in hell.

You should seriously talk with your doc about alternatives - that kind of pain and vomiting isn't acceptable. We're currently looking at Forteo as a possbility.

Warning - it is also a kidney toxin. Are they testing your creatinine before administering? Most antibiotics are this as well... Vanco and Tobra being two of the nastier ones.

I did it a few times but I had no problems at all. They gave me tylenol with codeine and I got really sleepy but that was it. I did it once without anything as well and I didn't have any problems. If I were you though I would definetely ask for something else. There is no way that I would take that stuff if I had the same problem you do. I'm not taking it anymore and my last bone scan was good so I guess it worked but if I had enormous pain and was throwing up I would refuse to take it. Good luck with everything. Hope you find something else!
Take care and stand up to those docs they need it!

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it!

I plan on talking to my dr about it but as far as I can gather I don't really have that much of a choice..... Especially with being on pred non-stop....

Hmmmm didn't know it was toxic to the kidney's which is NOT good considering I have been in renal failure 4 times and the last they thought was gunna be irreversibly... Nope get no creatine testing prior to the infusion or following the administration.... and with the vomiting wouldn't help my kidney function at all....

Thanks for the heads up
